If you load multiple case, forget about indexing the cases, there is no way of knowing (w/o extensive measuring) what differences are present in each case.

Measuring and marking each loaded ctg takes only a few seconds.
Yes it is ANOTHER #$%# step; but it does two things.  Each round is marked (this reduces group size) and it allows me to select the rounds with the least amount of runout for the most critical application.

Cat,
i'm not a fixed ammo shooter, my remarks were strictly for BSed loads. Your way, is the way to go for fixed.

Frank - we're on the same sheet of music, different parts, but in agreement.  SOMEDAY I'll get around to breech seating.

Cat,

Thanks. I wasn't "getting" where you were going in your first answer. I see what your doing now. Beyond my equipment level. =) I shoot SS's almost exclusively so just breech seat using one case which I orient to one of the letters or small notch on the rim. Never got involved with fixed ammo to the point where your setup would have been handy.

Pete -
Sometimes I think it would be MUCH easier just to breech seat.  I've not seen many folks use the runout gauges with CAST bullets.  I got the one pictured for $35 at a gun show years ago.  (Add a 100 to that for new price now.)

It seems that the more I can measure the more I can change intelligently.

Tim,
What kind of a seating die do you use?

The short answer is that I use the Hornady New Dimension seater (shown on right in .405 Win.)  The other three die bodies are Sinclair mandrel holders and a variety of home-made expander mandrels.  Shown are two-diameter expanders - .407 and .412 works for the .411 dia bullets.  The .412 diameter is only for about 1/10" depth and the .407 diameter is deeper.  The largest OD is .500 which adds a positive stop.  Next version will include a SLIGHT taper at the end nearest the stop to SLIGHTLY flair the case.  This allows me to slide the bullet in by hand (close sliding fit) and seating is very gentle and (if wanted) a VERY LIGHT crimp can be added when seating.
