My first nice Single shot, been a lot of things over the years.  BPCS flat buttplate. Bench rest with a # 5 Barrel, .219 Zipper varmint gun. Then Stevens 52 pattern full Schuetzen used with Black powder breech seated.  38/55 .22 LR now. Only thing it's used for these days is our Club Ram Bash offhand matches Rim-fire and Center-fire. And offhand matches on our 500 M Buffalo

Most of the time it looked pretty ordinary, I sanded out and finished the stocks myself and it looked it. Big argument on line one time with a guy who ran CPA's fit and finish down compared to Shilo's   Apples and Oranges I say, it was a home made finish job

Anyway last year sent it out to Millard Hixson for final sand down finish and checker.  Have a CPA Schuetzen, & BPCS/Varmint switch outfit on the way don't plan to be changing stocks anymore. Gave it to Ken Burklow who shoots our Ram Bash matches (and won last month) for engraving.  Picked it up yesterday.  It's not the pattern for everybody but motif means something to me.  Been shooting at those rams 20 years now. Logbook says it's first match was at Fairfax R & G June of 1993 and took 3rd place.  Have to count rounds up again however the 38/55 barrel well over 1000 per year and .22 LR barrel even more.  Could it be 40,000 rounds without a single malfunction ?

Awesome pictures of a sweet rifle. Thanks for posting boats.

I'm really looking forward to picking up my Mod 52 Schuetzen from CPA hopefully next month.

Tom that's perfect just what I wanted to see.  Ken  has that pattern off Hap's site but the photos are not as good as yours.

Guys,
Since we have an area on here for photos of rifles, maybe there could be support for an archive of good photos of just engraving examples ???
Maybe that's been done somewhere else that I'm not aware of.
If so, please advise, as I'd like to get some inspiration.
Would love to see examples of the engraver's art; old and new.

Boats, that's a pretty CPA! Often the beauty in a gun is the way it shoots, but your's has the external beauty also now!
Here's a couple Stevens patterns I have:

Thanks guys beautiful rifles, they do bring up some questions.

Rifle Tom Trevor posted the # 49 Walnut Hill matches the Stevens 49, 51 & 52 Engraving shown in the 1911 Stevens Catalog. Except,  Catalog front and rear border is a simple line not the double line with a design. Could be the catalog illustration did not show all the detail

First Rifle Marlinguy posted is exactly like the 1911 catalogs Stevens 54 engraving and gave us the idea fo the round panel side of my CPA.

Kurts rifle and Marlinguys 2nd Rifle are not shown in that catalog but certainly factory original both exactly the same. Probably shown in another catalog. I like it a lot.

That's 3 designs wonder if there are any more.

I am going to get my CPA Pope Offhand model Schuetzen engraved. And am leaning toward the # 49 pattern. CPA's are not Stevens and no need to be exact in every detail, should be close though. I am wondering about the borders, are some more intricate, some simple line, or does the catalog simplify the actual work

Have patience with me please !

I might have answered my own question off Halp's photo site. Good examples of Stevens # 49 engraving with several border treatments. Some simple line, some worked line, few double line embellished like on Tom's # 49  So it's pretty sure the factory would do about anything.

No doubt some ordered the 5 dollar # 49 engraving out of the catalog & had a few more bucks to put on the job, and Stevens was glad to accommodate.

Interesting stuff

Boats,-- Any chance to see close-ups of Ken's engraving on your rifle? Think he has posted engraved actions in the for sale section. Work appears to be excellent and maybe a hidden talent if he is in the business.

Boats, here's another #49 - hadn't seen a picture posted of one like this yet.
By the way, you've done a very tasteful job on your 20 year old!

Thanks another piece of the puzzle.  That 49 is near identical to one of the 49's on Halps site and probably the most suitable pattern for my Schuetzen CPA.

Am not a real good photographer, will try to get some close up's though.  Closer you look better it is.  Standing shooter on the right side of the action is from an old copy of "The Rifle" They had illustrations of the well known shooters of the day.

Ken picked that particular one and duplicated it perfectly. Right down to every detail.

He is a professional engraver, best talk to him direct for more details. Here is a link

Very nice examples, all of them! Nice to see that Ken is just up the road from me. Only about ten miles from where my spotter lives, so will be convenient to use his services.
Picking up my newly rebarreled CPA from the 'factory' next week. Looking forward to developing a load for it over the summer.
