.40 caliber. Perfect bore. About a 30 twist rate. First five shots went into two inches from cross stix at 100 yards. Using my own truncated cone/hollow base bullet.  Not much known about F W Jaehne. Bore size and rifling profile is the same as my Meunier rifle.

Joe, is there enough known about him to know if he made/rifled barrels in house or "out sourced" them?

I don't think so, Kermit.  I do suspect that many smiths made rifles just as we do today. If they didn't have a rifling machine they purchased from those who did. 

So much we don't know for certain.

Hello Bema!

Yes it is a nice rifle. So far very accurate. Have been shooting my own hollow base bullet and the standard 300 grain lead bullet for the 405 Winchester.  Really shoots that 405W well. Lyman 412-263? I think.  Huh

Biggi did a little research on Frederick W Jaehne for me.  Click on my link to read it.

This Jaehne rifle is my favorite to shoot at the moment, for two reasons. It's very accurate and the comb of the stock doesn't smack me in the cheek. 
Biggi has had a long cold winter with a lot of snow. Hope you're fairing better, Bema.

The diopter is one that is of a different pattern - interesting

The front and rear sight on the rifle in the pictures, are temporary.  The diopter is an original Oscar Will.  Most modern diopters use the same system. The Oscar Will sight is back where it belongs now.  Had to have some sights to shoot the rifle when I got it.  Wink

Hi Joe,
This Eastern weekend we still have very cold nights, minus 4/5 Celsius and we are hoping for better weather. Looking for a 10.1 mm. mold. I bought a German (Greuling) schützenrifle. Maybe a Minie style.(Bema/Bert)

Looks like you got a shooter, Bert. Very nice.   Your bore at .386 and groove at .403 is going to make it a tough one to get correct size bullets or a mold.  Not a common size on this side of the pond.  You need a Minie bullet about .387-8. A .403 solid base bullet which is easy enough to get will be a bugger to load in your rifle.  Could make a sizer to fit the muzzle for loading but think the bullet would have to be sized to much to work.
