Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

BS is great, but not feasible if you're planning on using the Ballard to possibly hunt with. I'd work up loads for both fixed ammo, and BS loads. That way you can go either route depending on what your use is that day.

Great idea. That way I can experience ( enjoy )  both methods.

I hope you all realize how much help you have been.   Not sure if I would have been willing to shot it without the knowledge you have been willing to share. Smiley

In responce to the suggestions received I have been trying to locate a source for 165 grain soft lead bullets.  So far none of the suppliers I have contacted reguarding length and ratio of lead to tin have replied back.   Maybe this is why you guys cast your own, something I would like to do in the future but not this early in the learning curve.   I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Also, in a July 2005 post titled need specs on 32-40 bore/throat under General Discussions it stated " new .32/40 brass will be shorter than those of several years ago".   Is this true and if so is it something I need to be concerned about?

My wife use to think I spent too much time reading about fly fishing, now she isn't so sure! Smiley

Try Buffalo Arms I think they have them in 25:1 which is a good starting point.

The new .32-40s are the correct length. It is .38-55s that Winchester decided to make shorter for some reason.
