This is not my rifle, but a nice old Ballard Pacific. Appears to have been more abused than used. Very tight and all the numbers match. Bore was about a 5 out of 10 and would group about six inches at 100 yards. Usual debate, reline, rebarrel, etc. Debate ended when a brand new Ron Long barrel was located. The original barrel will stay with the rifle.

What caliber is the old and new barrel.
Where on earth did he find a new or even used RL barrel? I'd LOVE to have one for my Pacific.

Pardon a new guy's question, but why does it have a set of open sights
on top
of the scope?

Walter, Get a bigger monitor for your computer, that's the old barrel you're looking at. MIKE

Chuck,
Nice old Ballard! I feel the envy.
Why am I suddenly wondering just when see-through scope mounts were invented?
There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

Old barrel was 38-55, new barrel is 32-40. Barrel was unthreaded, about #3 weight, octagon. Nice narrow land eight groove 1:16 barrel.
Quote the Owner,"I bet there is a lot of good stuff that was picked up and squirrelled away for future projects that they just didn't get around to, that's how I got this barrel." Of course this does not apply to any of us
.
Walter, Sorry about the picture arrangement. Never even thought about it.
