How about just paying us $100 for every set of qualifying groups that are sent to you?

Joe, I have yet to shoot 1/2 groups with my single shot rifles however I do not find this discouraging at all.  In fact quite the opposite.  I find it an excellent challenge.  I have no idea whether I'll ever get there but I'm happy as long as I have experiments to conduct and improvements to make.

I have a modern rifle in .223 that can shoot such groups but this rifle holds little long term interest for me.

Chris.

I'm not participating. I never shoot 100 yard groups. It's sissy shooting.  Five shots is real sissy shooting. 100.00 dollars is sissy money.  Wont even fill the tank on my truck. If 100.00 dollars will fill your trucks tank, you have a sissy truck.

If I've offended any sissies, man up and get over it.

5 shots in 1/2 inch is certainly possible,  4x5 averaging 1/2 inch same day same target no re-entry is much much harder.

Not impossible just very difficult. I won't take the challenge.  Too hard for me.

I say real competition is one shot at an unknown distance, over unknown terrain. Don't care if yer standing or lying on your belly, only support allowed is a military sling.

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Yup.  If you don't believe it try shooting prairie dogs with a .45-70.

Joe:

Assuming your average is based on the center to center of the two outside shots:

Here is a .387" five shot target shot at 100 yards with iron sights.

That day I shot one other target under half an inch and two that were slightly over half an inch. Unfortunately I discarded the other targets and am unable to claim your offer. They would have made the half inch average.

So a rifle can shoot a 1/2 MOA but I agree it cannot be done consistently since your judgement of wind conditions, mirage and bag technique are not always perfect every day. And yes it is extremely difficult to get all four targets under 1/2 MOA.

So is the argument about whether 1/2 MOA Rifles or 1/2 MOA Shooters exist. There is a difference.

1/2 MOA Rifles do exist.
Not as many 1/2 MOA Shooters out there as 1/2 MOA Rifles.

Yup getting the cataracts removed sure helped out the iron sight shooting.

Dave

Devil is in the detail. Take that .387 shoot it on a regestered target during a squaded relay with fixed times, then shoot 3 more under the same rule. It's not easy.

Way we shoot Schuetzen Re-Entry gives small groups while large ones can be ignored. Squadded relays don't have that advantage. Even single entry the shooter can pick his condition during the entire 2 or 3 day session, and most of the Single entry matches I have seen are 10 shot not 5x4 average

Afraid we are debating apples and oranges, end of the day there are no easy rifle matches and guys shooing a particular match have figured out how to do it the best way. Cross over from other disciplines even if similar rarely win when playing someone else's game.

CBA plain base 100 yard national record fired in a registered match 4x5 Ag is .4 Joes challenge of 4x5 1/2 Moa is pretty safe, doubt if he will be sending any cash to ASSRA shooters. It's the fixed time all count that makes it difficult.

Boats group shooting is alive in ASSRA and Andy, Jeff and Dale are to name a few who can take Joe B's money. There are alot of those like me who grew up on CBA that also shoot ASSRA and ISSA who can also take Joe B's money. We need to hear Joe's  rules in full detail, especially the time limit of the offer. This is not a good time of the year for anyone to get out with some not being able to do so at all. It has nothing to do with wind and mirage it has to do with extremely cold weather and snow and ice for some. 5 shot groups .5 and under are going to be small one hole groups and we don't want to be questioned about how many shots were actually fired nor to have our integrity questioned so we need to know what the rules are in full and complete detail.

You guys must not shoot in Western NY to much,Dale  {& Bass while he was still with us } God Bless Him have a Sunday relay of 5/5 shot groups on the same sheet {made for this } that to be in the money you have to do just about this and or better is about what it takes to win. Any relay any condition . Relay picked the day before. Ask Andy Z were he learned to shoot that new record he just shot.
