Stevens Sideplate

Here are a couple of photos of the small Stevens Sideplate Rifle that I restored back to shooting condition. Finish is the same as it was when I received it. I made a new hammer (it took three to get it right) and hammer screw. I modified an early Favorite main spring and had Peter Nagel of Restorative Welding repair the broken top tang. A barrel liner was installed by John Taylor. The butt stock is patterned after a Favorite stock. All other parts are original and in good shape. It still doesn't have sights but usable ones turn up from time to time on ebay.

Please ignore the foot.

Nicely done!  The Side Plate model seems to me to have a much smoother and more solid action than the later Favorites.  How does it shoot?

Bent_ramrod, Thanks to you I was able to reproduce the hammer. I've only shot it a few times just to see that it functioned properly. When I find sights I'll play with it some more.

I am thinking Favorite sights will fit or can be made to fit. It is always good to bring one back to shooting condition. I have one small frame sideplate and one large frame. Hard to find in any condition and harder to find in excellent condition. Mine are decent and functional but not pristine. Hate to see what I would have to pay for a mint one.
