Franz Dischler .38 made in Munich left. Nice John Meunier .46 made in Milwaukee.

Picture taken after a ten shot offhand fun match at one hundred yards.

Joe,
Rifles just don't get much prettier than those and that style. Some Kentucky's and fancy later Ballard's are about the only thing close.

You mean JOE gets all the good ones. The rest of us drool a lot. Wink

Interesting that it's the American rifle that has the exagerated buttplate.

I don't get all the good ones, darn it.  Sad

The Meunier belongs to a friend.  We were shooting from the front porch of another friend in Utah. The long pronounced butt plate on the Meunier rifle is a Henry Berg plate. They look ungainly but fit me perfectly.  Think the Berg plate was fitted to early Meunier PSRs but could be wrong. The plate is not rare and was fitted to many breech loaders.

westerner are those round ball rifles? Looks like I can see some round balls in a plastic bag on the bench. If not what kind and weight of a bullet do they shoot?  Just curious?

I am also interested in the bullets and loads.  Info please, Joe?

And would the load hold up at 200?

The Dischler has a 40 inch twist. Have been using a .377 hollow base GG bullet cast 30-1. 40 grains Swiss 1 1/2. Bullet weighs about 150 grains. Mold is adjustable for length but haven't tried other lengths yet. Have shot it to 100 yards only.

The Meunier owner was using .451 round balls and a .018 pillow ticking spit patch. 50 grains GOEX Cartridge.

Didnt measure his twist rate. Has a .470 groove diameter, seven groove barrel that looks original.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Beautiful guns Joe! Wish someone building guns today would make modern clones of them. Seems most people building modern traditional muzzleloaders are doing the old Kentucky hunting versions.
One in .36-.40 caliber would be a ton of fun!

One of the very nice features of the Percussion Schuetzen rifle is the sights.  I have an aperture sight in the front. Can also see a pin head if I had to use one, thanks to the peep sight.
Easy on us old shooters with tired eyes. Don't shoot my open sight rifles these days. Just cant see the sights.

Joe was mostly right about the load for the Meunier except that I was using Swiss 1.5 and, out of concern for the cold weather, cut the patch lube with a little ethanol the night before.

Jon

Nice rifle.  Did the ethanol patches become balls of fire?  I trust you used industrial grade ethanol.

You saying you added ethanol to your spit the night before? If so, why wait for cold weather?

Have you seen the Pedersoli Waadtlander Joe?
I was looking at Dixie today and found an example of them. Pretty nice looking Swiss style target rifle, but $3,000! Not quite as nice as the originals. A little bulky looking:

I thought about the Pedersolis when they were priced at about half that.  $3 K ought to get you a nice original.
