Gentlemen,

I bought a buy it now Berdan de- and re- capper off of Evil-Bay. I have not seen anything like it, but you folks have much more experience than I do. I appears to fit the 40/50 Sharps Straight.

Here is a picture of the primer puller mechanism, minus the spike.

Ric,
Interesting tool, looks like it would work well.  Wish I was smart enough to comment. Makes me appreciate Boxer primers. Good pictures.

I think it's missing the sharpened point. There should be a beveled point that digs into the fired primer, then you grab the case and just pull it down, that pulls out the old primer. I've had tools similar to that one, but for shotgun shells. I think you can easily make a new point for it, the little set screw holds it in.

Yes, it is missing the spike in picture two. The Berdan primers were very thin copper, like a musket cap, so were easy to pull out. SB is right, I will make a new spike, but it is 20 degrees in the shop this morning, so will wait till it warms up a little. Ric

Ric,

You've gotta move to a warmer clime... get away from all that cold stuff.  If you come over to the Right Coast and move a little farther South, we could be neighbors and do more mould swappin' and lie tellin' and...  Keep us posted on that re&de... it looks like an interesting one.

Having grown up in the WV,KY and OH area, I would consider moving back there if: you killed all the 'skeeters, ticks, flys and cockroaches; air conditioned it all in the summer to get the humidity level down to a reasonable 15%; and killed off all of that green stuff outside! Merry Christmas, Ric

Thank you for checking! The thread pitch is 32 tpi (according to my old Miller Falls gauge), but it is not 60 degree thread, nor 55 degree metric threads, but appear to be about 45/50 degrees. By the way, the maximum base diameter would be 0.481" and maximum rim diameter is 0.525". Ric
