Many years ago, a friend had a Wickliffe rifle, as I recall it was very large and ungainly, sort of like a Stevens but larger and not nearly as pretty. To add insult to injury the bluing on it was red.  Sad

I just finishhed one in 38_55 w/ full oct. barrel.  It is a J. Stevens action on steroids.  Very durable and sturdy.

     I just wanted to get back with you and add that if I may be of any help to you and your buddy pertaining to the Wickliffe rifles, please either send me a P.M. with specific questions or here at the thread.

    I have done considerable research on the company that produced the finished rifles and the action design and would be happy to share some of that with you.

These Wickliffe rifles look much better than I remember

The blued Wickliff receivers I have seen were a bit purplish in color and weren't as pretty as the white or engraved receivers. When you handled them they were heavier than an 1885 and I like more slender girls.

But they were a good falling block and good for modern center fire cartridges.

The factôry configuration was round barrel,  beaver tail forearm & Monte Carlo buttstock.

When the action is done w/ octagon 30" barrel & straght comb stock it is very attractive indeen.

My 38-55 has a bright receiver & blue barrel & meets NRA spec for sillouett matches.

There is no top tang, so you just add one.

The Wickliffe Rifle is still alive. New machined actions will available in 4130, 8620  and  poss brass and titaniun in the future. 3 sizes are being kicked around 80 %, 75% and  standard. There will be factory and custom rifles available, and sirs if you don't hear it from me or Jay, its bs. lawsongunsmith@gmail.com

Just talked to the fine gentleman, He is going to build them right. The actions will have different sizes, scaled for cartridges. Even one for the 50 BMG is being considered. It seems to be a promising venture, and I wish him all the best. LGS Lawson Gunsmithing Services. Cabool Mo.
