It is a lovely looking Roller but I do think it has been refinished. The CC Hardening is in a too pristine a condition to be well over a century old. However, it does add to the appearance of the rifle, and it wouldn't put me off buying it for one minute.

Recieved the rifle today. It is in great condition.  The bore is mirror bright.  If it has been relined, I can't tell it. Where I thought the reciever had rust damage, now appears to be a casting defect.
I don't know remingtons very well,  but I do know that they had a forging shop.  What looks like a casting defect may very well be a wrought iron forging.  Not only is wrought iron incredibly tough stuff, it is normal for the grain to fold during the forging process, and for end grain on the surface to have what looks like casting defects.  The barrel looks like wrought iron as well (notice the little defects in the surface).  These defects weren't visibly there 130 years ago,  time and the elements have been at work.  Beautiful rifle.  The Remington experts here can tell us if these #2s were forged or not.  I thought Remington forged all of their actions until way later. Wink
This rifle barrel is very clearly stamped "F", measures .945-.950 at the reciever, and .760 at the muzzle (Flat to Flat). 30" long (Muzzle to R block).

What do I have?

Smoke, let me apologize...I did something wrong when posting.  My comment begins at "I don't know much....." and ends before the last sentances of yours.  On my tombstone maybe I'll have'm put "I don't know much...."
