Cast .22 CCM M44 Stevens

Thought I'd share my little cast plinker.  Took a beat up M44, re-barralled in .224, new french walnut furniture.  Action is still in the white, can't decide between case color or french grey.  Inspiration for caliber choice was the .22 Extra Long Maynard.  Shooting only cast at low velocities.  Topped it off with a Fecker Woodchucker scope.

Still working with different molds/powders.

Send the receiver & lever to CPA, Paul will make it look brand new with factory looking case colors.     ...MIKE...

Nice CC.  I've had CPA do new CC on a 44.5 some time back.  They do outstanding work.  Since this has been in the white for so long, it's sort of grown on me.  Thus the interest in finishes that give that silver dull grey look.  I've seen Metalife finishes that are too bright.  I've seen nickel done in a way that's spot on to what I'm looking for.  Just have no idea on who does old school nickel.

I asked this question of Ken Hurst, a few years back, and he said:

Contact Dale Broadbent of Reliable Electro Plating in Chartly Mass.  He has been doing plating on many of my engraved pieces and I am well pleased with his work & prices.  Ken

Yes, Small Caliber, they do do outstanding work, and part of that S.S. work involves Nickel Plating.

My schuetzen butt plate is nickel plated and so is the palm rest mounting bracket, both of which came from CPA, courtesy of Mr. Paul Shuttleworth.

You speak of who does "old school nickel"?  Could you define what that is?  Maybe you just read that someplace.  I'm not sure if mine is old school or not, but it was done by CPA's subcontractor, and it is nickel, and not chromium.

Old style nickle has a yellowish tinge, as far as I know, no one does it. I usually prepare my stuff & just have it nickle plated, then give it a good rub down with a Scotch-Brite pad, takes that chromed look away.    ...MIKE...

Thanks for providing the clarification.  The look that I'm after is pictured here.  Not my rifle (I wish).  I'm assuming this is original nickel - maybe a satin or brushed finish??

do just as mike says. if you don't, they will polish it like a old 50's bumper and take any sharp edges away.

That's probably French Grey, I believe a kind of hardening process.         ...MIKE...

If you want a yellowish tinge try using a brass brush. It will almost leave a gold washed look so go slow and easy... Don
