Flobert Rifles

Was at a gun show a couple of weeks ago and saw a Flobert (Warnant system) .32 rimfire. Felt sorry for it and it followed me home. Has a checkered knob stock, fixed sights, fancy guard, dove butt plate, dark bore shootable if you dare. Neat little gun, any one into Floberts? PM if if interested of have useful information to share.

Thanks

In North Germany in the old days, they used Flobert rifles for practice in winter or for the people who didn't get a membership in a firerifle-shooting society. But Flobert rifles were never very accurate.

In south Germany and Austria, they used the zimmerstutzens, which were very accurate for practice and matches. So the zimmerstutzen found his way late to North Germany, but then the smallbore .22 rifles came up and nobody was anymore interested in Floberts.

Here's a nice German Krieghoff 22 with Warnant action.
Non-weird trigger guard and DST, with nice tasteful engraving.

I have a friend who shoots one of these in Rook & Rabbit rifle comps. The snag is that it is in .34 revolver calibre! I have never seen an original round, or for that matter, a revolver chambered for it. Starting with .32 S&W brass, it is first swaged and then machined. He swages bullets in a home made die and loads with black powder.
After all that, i wish I could say that it is accurate, but it isn't.

Hi don1885.

Okay, just found it in my archive. There is a booklet about Flobert rifles, the systems and the history. Written in the 1980s in English by Joseph Thomas Vorisek.

The Flobert Gun - History | by Joseph T. Vorisek
53 pages, about 8 1/2" x 11" glossy soft-cover in full color. Newly reprinted with permission. Printed on high quality 20# 97 bright acid free paper. Fully Illustrated with photocopied images (some of the rarest guns are depicted with low quality images).

You can order a reprint here: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

This is the only book I have ever seen to the Flobert topic.

Thank you Biggi, placed an order for the Flobert book and thanks to all for the comments and info. Looks like the rifle I found is almost a twin to the one Screwloosetc pictured in this post. Will try and get a pic of mine posted.

Thanks again and hopes for a Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Here is an interesting feature of this Flobert, the butt plate is plastic and is in amazing condition. Slight imperfections at the heel and toe.
