Helm Low wall 22RF

My main 22RF built eight years ago. Started as a beat up Winder RF. Wyoming Armory did the work, Keith did a good job filling in the holes on the action and color case, Meachum Helm Lever, Ron Smith Gain Twist. Wood from A Black Walnut 6' on the stump  I worked up back in 86'. Pete

Nice rifle! I’ve always been partial to Winder Muskets because they’re the same size action as a highwall, they come complete with an ejector and a fly in the hammer.

Indeed a nice rifle.
Having my Winder action built into a 25-20WCF Scheutzen rifle for the very reason of the larger receiver. Will fit the Win #3 1/2 profile barrel better than the more narrow Low Wall receiver.

Thanks Guys...I may cut 2" off the #4 oct barrel and make it 28"( Ron smith said it wouldnt affect gain twist)have it turned round to forearm AND finally get both   checkered on pistol grip.
With the Neck and shoulder operations this year I've got to knock some weight off my guns. Wont be able to shoulder anything for awhile yet, maybe wishful thinking doing the prep, but sure want to shoot this next year!
Pulled the 38-55 barrel off the matched Highwall Helm and John King is putting on A round contoured RKS Gaintwist 25-20 WCF so I can shoot CF Matches . Can put 38-55 back on in future if it works out offhand shooting and I can handle the kick. Heres pics of the Highwall stock. then off to checkering.Pete

The younger stock maker at Wyoming Armory( 8 years ago) First soaked the stocks in " Dalys Ship N Shore " 1/2 day each side just let them float in it and soak up. Then let them cure A couple days to totally dry. Finish light sanding for any raised grain left then used the spray finish Brownells sell. I am doing the same on some wormy walnut that came out of the 6' Black walnut  for two Miller Stocks, but use the hand rub oil instead that brownells sells. I did a stock couple years ago came out gorgeous. I steam stocks A good dozen+ times to raise all grain out. This old Walnut is so tight doesnt take much to prep it. Hope it helps. Pete
