I am obviously a new member and want to thank y'all for the help and hospitality. Everyone has been very helpful with my novice questions and I have even had someone offer me some parts for my old Ballard. Sorry for the off-topic post but I just needed to express my appreciation.

Publius no need to apologize, your post is highly welcomed as this is what this site was originally created for. That being helping others to succeed in their single shot endeavors and not holding anything back. There is no such thing as a dumb question here so feel free to ask any questions that you might now have and all of those that will arise in the future.

Welcome aboard you are a valued new addition.

J.Louis

Publius -

WELCOME to the board!

I disagree with rafter3c.  There is at least ONE dumb question:  "Tim would you like a beer?"

99% of the time that is a dumb, but polite, question.

Other than that, keep the questions coming - they are the life-blood of the forum.

Welcome. Keep asking questions. We all learn something in these discussions. Sometimes things go off topic and get a little nit pickey here but most of the time everyone is helpful and friendly. I have learne a lot here over the years and always try to share what little I know and helpful info I have in my various reference materials.

Tim, I'm sorry I won't be seeing you and your lovely wife at the Chinquapin matches this week-end in Virginia.  Definitely, in the Spring.

Do you have any interest in Gatling guns ?  It's quite a drive from your place to Fort Ross.

Webb - that would be FUN!  Not sure that I can break loose.  (have driven to South Dakota for Prairie Dogs, Vermont another weekend to deliver a test set, a spiritual weekend (Walk to Emmaus) and to Iowa for a wedding AND took a week in Slovenia (work) - all in the last 6 weeks).

Chinquapin Scheutzenverin this weekend and Ram Bash next.

Time to change the oil again.

I'll be glad to settle down to the winter months for casting bullets.

You are really the proverbial traveling man.

You have most likely seen and fired your share of rapid fire armaments in your career, whereas, I have only fired a full auto Thompson off the deck of a submarine at the invitation of the U.S. Gov't.

Speaking of Winter coming on, are you up for a Del-Mar-Va Winter Gathering this year.  There is a need for two or three of us as "organizers."  No rush, but November is fast approaching.

Are we speaking of the Fort Ross on the coast of CA
north of Jenner?  Not many people know it even exists.

  Good Friday morning, Rim-Fire;

I am aware of the West Coast historical site that you are speaking about, but have not personally visited it.

The Fort Ross site that I spoke to my friend, Cat_Wispered, about earlier is located in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and the property contains a full size reproduction of a F. & I. War block house constructed of full round cut tree logs, as was representative of that period.

You may wish to read our previous discussions RE: Fort Ross which you will find in the ASSRA category "Off Topic", under the sub heading "Historical Gatling Guns"

  I hope this is helpful.

  Best regards,

  Creedmoormatch

Thanx - I will check it out.
I was stationed in the service a little south of the west coast Fort Ross - was not aware of another.

  Rim-Fire

Unfortunately, I have no photos of Fort Ross (Pennsylvania) that I can send you presently that accurately reflex the block house construction.

I will be taking pictures of the block house while I am there in early November for the Gatling gun demonstrations.

In the mean time, you may be interested in seeing photos of some of the period Gatling guns that were present at that location in 2010.
