Blood Coagulants

Participants in the shooting sports are frequently exposed to the risks of accidents which are beyond their control or contemplation.  Often, the situs of such an accidental occurrence is quite remote and removed from adequate medical intervention.

Therefore, comprehensive first aid equipment and supplies are highly recommended for pre-placement at shooting sports facilities.

Of primary importance in the event of personal injury is the control of the victims external bleeding with the use of an instantaneous hemostasis product.

There are powdered blood coagulants available such as "QuickClot" and "Hemcon", to name just a few, on the market.  The availability and use of such a product could be instrumental in saving a life in an emergency situation, perhaps your own.

Sounds like it would be a good time to have a talk with your local combat medic or EMT and schedule a time to attend a Red Cross First Aid Course to bring you up to speed on current equipment and techniques.

An IFAK (individual first aid kit) should be readily available not only while participating in our sport, but also while traveling to and from any events, or to the grocery store or gas station for that matter.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

To take it a step a further prior to the start of our matches we ask for and assign two volunteers in case of a medical emergency. One is to make the 911 call and one is to meet the medical response team at the street. Those two critical procedures will be performed automatically and without delay so others can give immediate attention to the person or persons in need. We are located off the beaten path thus the importance of the meeting at the street for the medical emergency responders.
