Nice. They are great shooters. I have an original in Long Rifle and one in Short. Who did the stock? Nice job.

Fantastic stock work ! So you are a lefty.
Have you ever done a Stevens M-44 1/2 Pope off-hand style stock? If so, I would like to see a photo if you have time.

On your first 414, the one with the high cheek piece, I like the way you carved the wood butt stock where it meets the receiver frame between the two tang pieces.
On the original J. Stevens high end factory stocks, they carved a semi-circle panel at that location. I have had a heck of a time replicating those two panels, one on each side, and it takes forever for me to get them "right" and in proportion, one to the other.
I may follow what you have done, since it looks so nice.

Since I don't own a 44 1/2, I haven't had a reason to make a stock for one.
I keep trying to find a Remington # 2, but so far no luck at a reasonable price. I want to try a stock for one of those.

The scope blocks are 5/32".

Hey Don! You're still putting those cheek pieces on the wrong side for me!
Always good to see your gorgeous stocks!

Don, Having seen your work above, I just assumed that you were a professional stock carver/maker with a shop open for business.
If I see a good No.2 Remington, I will be happy to give you a call back. I have been seeing quite a few nice No.4's at the auction houses that I frequent.

Pretty good, but I haven't been able to shoot now for some time. These were at 25 yards, 5 shot groups on the bottom half singles on the top.

That No. 4 is soooo nicely done. It's amazing what a well executed stock replacement will do for an otherwise "ordinary" Remington R.B.
You are a professional, if you will allow me to say so.

Very nice, indeed.
My brother has a 414 in 99%+ condition with original wood and would be interested in a source for the modern scope block if you do run across.

You mean "Hips". Not too well. No pain but absolutely no stamina. Can hardly walk to the mailbox and back. Haven't popped a cap now in about 3 years, spend very little time in the shop, just don't feel like doing much of anything
. I still sit on my *&^ and carve some but thiat's about it.
