Close up of the action would be nice.

Bill's right, we need a series of close ups to possibly identify it. It could be a Wilber Hauck action, he was in Vermont, I think Huh

There use to be a member named Michael Petrov who was familiar custom makers, he would be a good one to ask. I believe you can reach him on; (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) in the single shot rifle section. Wink

Here is a double set Wilbur Hauck rifle. Hard to tell if the action is the same as yours. I see three pins on the side face of the action in the article and two on yours. Looking at the patent drawing it looks like one through pin for the trigger, one for the extractor and one for the lever. But the trigger and extractor pin locations don't coincide with the article picture.

Here is good discussion with allot of different rifle pictures on page 2. Pay attention to the lines at the face of the action forearm interface as they are not all the same. In the second to last picture showing the four rifles stacked the second one down has an action that resembles yours.

This is not a Hauck rifle, but one of the "Improved" versions made by Matteson back in the 80's.  I had a copy of the patent on that, but couldn't find it.  It  wasn't around for long, but is probably a good copy of the basic Hauck action.  I remember a review of it in the ASSRA journal a long time ago.  The biggest difference I can see right off is the trigger is very different on this one.  Still well worth putting together as a complete gun, but will probably take some effort.  I'd certainly do it if I owned it.  I'd even be interested if you decided not to yourself.

  Hello back to you, Original-68

At first blush, your barreled action appears to be the work product of some previous capable gun designer/builder.

Should you decide at some time in the future that it is, or becomes, a project that you would rather not pursue to it's conclusion, I would be happy to discuss a purchase of the project from you.

Hello Original68,

I just happened onto your post this weekend and was just now granted permission to post on this site.

Yes that is a Hauck rifle and pretty rare.

I am a collector of these fine falling block actions.

Over the past 20 years I have acquired a good supply of spare parts, including stocks/forearmes and parterns to make stocks from.

Hopefully you will get this posting get back to me.

You can contact me at RandyTidwellSales at gmail dot com.

or call me at 562-682-6997

Hopefully I can help you complete this fine rifle.

Randy
