I own a Herpburn actioned .219 Zipper done beautifully(in the eye of the beholder LOL) in pristine condition since modified for woodchucks-hawks-coyotes or perhaps some form of light benchrest shooting. Is it possible to discover how it left the factory? If it was a particularly nice version, I might want to have it restored as I have a great many other single shot varmint rifles-thanks,Mike

As far as i know there are no factory records from Remington of ANY KIND.Does it still have the original Barrel on it? If marked "E. Remington & Sons" it was made before 1888, thats when Rem. went bellly up and became a Corperation(1/2 owned by Winchester, believe it or not).Sorry

As mentioned in another Hepburn thread contact Richard Binger at Stott's Creek Armoury Inc. 1-317-8785489. Richard is a Hepburn collector and he is probably the most knowledgeable when it comes to the Hepburns.

Thank you both gentlemen-I'll try to contact Mr. Binger re my Hepburn-the serial # on the lower tang does not match the number on the side of the upper tang- is this common ?-do they usually match? The barrel is for sure a replacement-not relined,so no Rem. marks on it. Thanks again-Mike

Probably wont get any answer on how it left the factory, regardless of who you talk to. Unless some new records pop up that are a recent discovery. Remington records are pretty much non existent, but there has been a small group from the Remington Society going through an old storage room for years now, but not much has turned up to confirm specific numbers.

Had a good chat with Corey Creamer of the RSA at the recent WACA Reno show. I'll just say that the info they have been able to acquire from the records thus far has been hard-earned.

tom rowe is doing a book on the hepburn including the walker.he is hoping to have it completed by the end of the year but more information keeps coming out,so it may be delayed a little.i have a prelimanary copy from about 6 months ago and if you know tom it will be a great book.the frank wesson book was just completed that he was part of,is a three volume boxed set and is an amazing history lesson on these old single shots we love.i have some for sale if interested.   tony <><

The number on the sides of the tang don't match the actual serial number which is stamped on the outside bottom of the lower tang. Also on original rifles the receiver, barrel (bottom near the receiver), forearm, buttstock, and butt plate all carried the serial number.

rafter3c-No, I've never shot schuetzen-lots of varmint calling through the years mostly with many converted single shots in hot calibers-Wickliffes,Clerkes,small martinis,Highwalls,FBW's, lone Hepburn etc. I know that the collectors and purists on this site with their wonderful originals and their great knowledge might have heart problems if I posted a group photo of my converted single shots! I go close( by way of Mule Creek Az ) to Silver City very often on my way to our mt. home in Alpine, Az. Hunt unit 27 has been very good to me and my hunt partners. I've driven by Borchardt Rifle Co. many times ,but have never stopped in (how many Single Shot fans can say that-or would admit to it? lol! )-I will remedy that! Is there an active Schuetzen group in Silver? Thanks for asking-Mike
