Tough Match !

My club held it's first buffalo match yesterday. We shot at a buffalo at 200 yards reduced to simulate a 500 yard shot. Hitting the buffalo was 6 points and there was a 9/10 and 7/8 ring to simulate a heart or vital organ shot. The rings were small, the ten ring about 1.5" or so. Problem was the target was made so that you could not see the scoring rings from the firing line, just the outline of the buffalo. Four sighters and ten shots for score. The organizers said real buffalo don't have bullseyes on them and that you had to place your shot to win. Everyone who participated said how tough it was and really enjoyed the match. If I can get a picture of the target I'll post it.

What were the winning scores? That will tell us how tough it was (unless you all shoot like me - poorly).

Glenn - 2x CPA 44 1/2 w/22LR (Shilen ratchet-rifled & Bartlein 5R rifled), 38-40RH & 38-55WCF (Bartlein 5R rifled) & 40-65WCF (GrnMtn 'X') barrels

Winning score was 73, but the winner intentionally shot for the middle of the target on his last shot for a safe six. It was easy to shoot a miss and all but the top three shooters had at least one.

I'd  really like to see the target!
Do you have dimensions?
How about the location of the scoring rings?
This sounds like a lot of fun.

As stated before you could not see the scoring rings from the firing line. You did have a 8x10 copy of the target to see where it was. The buffalo was about 48" across.

Looks like a fun target but setting your sights to hit about 10 to 12" low at 200 and then holding center over the front leg should make it even more fun. Hank
