Hello, everyone.  I was wondering when these BSA match rifles might have first became available in the U.S.?  Thanks!

I bought my first 12/15 at a gun show in upper New York state about 20 or so years ago. Think they may have been brought in by Navy Arms at that time. But remember seeing them for sale in the shotgun news prior to that. Think I paid $125 for it and had offers to buy it before I left the show. Frank

If you are interested in the Martini rifles there is a wealth of info on this sight, (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) I have spent hours learning more about Martini rifle facts on this informative sight. I don't think there is much that can not be found with a little searching. Good luck.

Al Freeland was importing and selling Martinis in the 50's- 60's as I recall.   But the ones I remember were the later Marks and Internationals.  I don't know when or if the earlier ones were imported commercially in any quantity or who might have done so.

Hello, everyone..I was thinking more in the line of the martini rifles Pope re-barreled into prone match rifles during the early 1930's?  I know at that time, they were highly regarded and were a competition to the Win. 52.

Just for context remember that the Peabody-Martini variations were being used with good results in long range shooting as well as some midrange and schuetzens on both sides of the Atlantic and some of the german american smiths were building on Martini actions.

So as Competition-quality rimfire ammo came into being Martini actions were not as far off the radar as we might think at this remove.    I'm not sure how the English martinis fit into the story though.
I'm thinking that the topic of the evolution of the 22 rimfire singleshot target rifle would make a very interesting article or two for the Journal since it would involve both the development of the ammo and the creation and popularization of the guns as well are the organization of competition.

I bought my first cadet martini in about 1962 in a pawn shop in Oklahoma for 25 dollars. I had a 17 Ackley Bee built on it and still shoot it today. The second one I bought a Mark III in 1964 and it is still in like new shape and shoots extremely well. The MarkIII back then cost 169.00 dollars with no tax and no paperwork. I have since bought about 10 or 12 other martini's of which I still have about 5 of them. I have one large martini that I am working on right now, got the action years ago at a local gun show. Plan to make a stalking rifle out of it. Here is a picture of the one I am working on.
