Built this little rifle in 1973 but hadn't shot it since 1975 until recently using Hornady .17 Hornet cases, had forgot how well it shoots, thanks Hornady for those cases.

Man! how can you have that and not shoot it for 37 years!?

I thought I was bad not shooting some of mine for a couple of years. . .

Beautiful work, by the way.

skratch, yep, I did both. I bought a beautiful blank and the wood dealer thru in a buttstock as a bonus.  That buttstock was just large enough for me to slice the forend of the top and still had enough left for the butt.
Gewehr, I think that's a sign of too many guns, I have others that haven't been shot in over 20 yrs. Too many guns, too little time. H12

How did the Hornady 17 hornet cases work in the Ackley chamber.  I was under the impression that they were different.

Did you reload with 17 Hornady or 17 Ackley dies?

Thanks

Allen

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments, thanks for looking.
Sakoman-your right, they're slightly different althought the Hornady tech told me they were the same. Running them into an Ackley die and fireforming  and now they're the same. They are a good strong case, I think better than the hornet case.  I'm getting 3750 with the 20 Vmax and 3500 with the 25 hp with excellent accuracy during and after fireforming.  I tried to post a pic but it wont let me. Hank,

Thanks for the information .

I just got a 17 Ackley Hornet rifle and I hoping to be able to use the Hornady dies which are cheaper than the special Ackley dies.

I am still looking for a set of Ackley dies but I will order some of the 17 Hornady brass.

Thanks again,

Allen

Sakoman, If you have a gun that will cam the cases into the chamber they might work without running them into the Ackley die. In the Martini they have to fully chamber before the bolt will close and they wouldn't quite do it.
I hear you on the dies, in 1973 i sent 3 cases to RCBS and they made dies to fit. I believe they were $125 way back then.  If you have a K-hornet or possible a standard hornet or any die that will reduce that Hornady case shoulder a few thousands that would work for fireforming them.

Here's another small Martini I built in the Early 70s in .218 Mashburn Bee, Birdseye Maple stock, 17" barrel, Lyman Alaskan scope.

That is beautiful  craftsmanship. The stock style with the shadow line cheek piece and checkering pattern is awesome !

Well, thank you very much for the compliments.  That little .218 MB with the original buttstock and shortened original forend accounted for 23 Blacktail Bucks before i finally decided to put some decent wood on it ,been mostly hanging on the wall ever since.
