Mauser SS .22

I was hoping someone on here might be able to give me a bit more information about this rifle. As you can see Bubba had it sometime before I aquired it. As you can see the original rear sight is long gone. The front has a ramp that I think is original but it now has a Lyman 17a fitted to it and a Redfield rear sight. It does have a 3 way safety and a full length claw extractor. For all practical purposed it looks like a standard '98 only shrunk down. It also has the top of the receiver groove for a scope mount.
Any help would be appreciated and a ball park value would be nice if anyone has any idea.
Thanks Much
Sam

They are fairly common.  a lot came back here after WW2.  Due to the punitive Versailles Treaty terms that Germany was forced to sign at the end of WW 1 use of firearms was heavily restricted in an attempt to de-militatize Germany.  Rifles like this and the creation of a large organization of "civilian" "shooting clubs" was one way to get around the restrictions on the number of soldiers they were allowed to have.
However bear in mind that most nations instituted heavily organized youth programs that were military cadet training in some guise.  Most were equipped with 22 rimfire renditions of the nation's service rifle.

I have owned a couple at various times and if they have not been abused they are very accurate little rifles with proper ammunition selection.

At this point it's strictly a shooter, but probably a very good one if the bore/crown is in good shape.

You have a highly altered DSM34. This was rimfire "equivalent of the German service rifle, though the KKW (Klein Kaliber Wehrsport) rifles that followed it were more like the K98.
It should have a full length stock with a handguard and rear sight on a permanent base. These rifles did not originally have grooved receivers, so Bubba or his cohorts added this as well.

The ramp front sight and Redfield peep sight are also add-ons.
As it is, it would not be worth more than about $200 to me. If it were original and depending on who produced it (there were many companys who made these and some are very rare) it would probably bring $600 to $1000+. The Mausers were the most common.

It would be a great starting point for a custom rimfire with a better stock and some modest metal work.

I believe the grooved receiver is original. Here is a nice on for sale although probably asking more than it is worth since it too has suffered "Bubba".

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

The grooved receiver is not original for a DSM34. It could be an ES340B sporting barreled action set into a DSM34 stock, but this seems unlikely.
The auction link you provided is for a Walther, not a Mauser. This is based on the Sportmodell V, which was grooved at the factory.
