  For those who are on a quest to either enlarge their collection with a long desired example or to locate the capable shooting arm, may I refer you to a unique S.S. collection presently being offered on the internet site, GunBroker.

They've been on there for over 2 years. He ain't interested in selling them, only showing them off. I'm getting tired of seeing them every time I go to Gunbroker. I wish he'd take them to an auction house and find out what they are really worth.

That gentleman has been collecting, selling and buying single shot rifles probably as long as I have been alive and I am pushing 61 real hard and he knows exactly what each and everyone is worth in his book. He used to provide I believe it was quarterly publication of his current inventory and I would assume listing them on GB is a cost saving measure so God Bless him.

The rifles for sale are not his collection. I have known him for about 45 years he is always buying and selling. His prices may be high but he does know what he has and if you are looking for something he is likely to have it.

  Hello Jon,  now that I have been provided with the "rest of the story", I am thinking those three Maynard Target models (8358, 8374, and 8756) came out of your floor safe.

  Hope you are doing well in Kansas.

His name is Jim Goergen.  He use to have an ad in the Singleshot Exchange. He is from Austin, MN. At the MO Valley Collectors Show , a couple of years ago, he told me his son is putting those guns on GB. I have done business with him.  He has a lot of items, his prices might be high, and sometimes I find his descriptions generous.  Recently, he sent me a new catalogue of his wares.

  Thank you Kurt;

   Yes, I do know who you mean.  I personally met him several years ago at the Maryland Antique Arms Collectors Show in Baltimore (actually at the Timonium fair grounds).  We had a pleasant conversations RE; J. Stevens, and he was well informed on the topic.  I usually go by his tables every year at that show to say hello and survey what he has brought to the market place.

Thanks again !

I once lived in Minniesoter, and met Jim Goergen a couple of times at shows.   Pleasant enough, but he's definitely a "buy low, sell high" kinda guy.  I won't ever bother to offer him a gun again, and I'll leave it at that.

If it's a rare singleshot then Jim has it, but he'll also most likely have it for some time. His prices are high enough that you have to REALLY want it if you buy from him.

Top end  of any collectors market always brings top dollar. Good thing about his rifles is they are generaly just right. No hidden issues.

All out of my price range though.

I bought a 44 1/2 schutzen from him 30 yrs ago, it had the barrel spliced at the chamber. I notified him the same day I was refusing it. He refunded my money no problem. I bought several stalking & schutzen rifles from him in the late 70s & early 80s & from the looks of the current prices I should have bought more.

   Bly;

He would be welcome to bring the J. Stevens marque pieces here and leave them with me until they are sold.

I will provide above average care and feeding of each, and they will be out in the fresh air with plenty of exercise.  My digs have the latest version of electronic intrusion detection devices and the "fail safe" backup is a pair of Jack Russell terriers with perfect hearing.

Jim, what do you say?  If I become emotionally attached to one in particular, I just may have to write you a check for it and call it my own.  Kinda like "try before you buy" arrangement.

I've known Jim for years from the Baltimore show. I've dealt with him a little but not much. I always seem to end up with a fixer upper that needs some TLC. I've always been a bottom feeder and he has top shelf stuff. He is not much of a negotiator unless he's buying.

I'm not a collector, I shoot my guns. Most are just old brown guns that are functional. I don't need any safe queens that I only caress and look at. Having them is akin to being married to Miss America and just looking at her.

  Hello Bly:

  You may be interested in shooting some with the Columbia Schuetzenverin over the weekend of April 6, 7, and 8th at Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland.  Consider yourself invited, as it is a loosely constituted, informal gathering of collectors/shooters of Single Shot rifles who meet three times a year for competition, friendship, and an all around good time.  I guarantee that you will feel welcomed.   Smiley
