Would like to hear what your favorite bullet is to use in a 32-40 single shot, and if you use it as fixed ammo or BS. 
   My old Stevens 44 in 32-40 has a 1 in 16" twist and it's shooting pretty good for an old rifle with an OK bore. It seems to like the SAECO #632 bullet breech seated. I tried the SAECO #732 at 200 grains and it just would not shoot well. They must be too long for the 1 in16" twist.
    Having a liner installed in another rifle with a 1 in 14" twist. I would tend to believe it will shoot he SAECO #732 bullet breech seated well. However SAECO is not the only bullet design out there. So what is shooting good and what should I stay away from? They tell me that spitzer bullets are harder to get to shoot well. Is that true? What's your thoughts on this?

I use a David Mos "standard" 5-groove bullet that casts-out at 211 gr. and .3225" on the base band with 1/20 alloy.

This bullet is mostly used in a CPA Stevens rifle with a 1/14 twist Shilen barrel.  As a bonus feature, this is the only bullet of this weight that is stable at 200 yards in my Falling Block Works rifle with a 1/16 twist Barry Darr Barrel.

It's easy to cast, easy to breechseat, accurate, and works in both rifles - who could ask for more.

This would be a very interesting subject for me especially if everyone would include the length of the bullet with the twist and throw in the velocity along with that.

I'm shooting a Barnett spitzer 1.19 inches long the front band measures .322 with the base measuring .323 using 25/1 shooting in a Douglas 14" twist. I have to keep it at least 1450 fps to keep it from tipping rather badly at 200 yards. I think that it shoots OK but it does seem to be rather touchy to me maybe its just the wind that i have to deal with but it will throw one out 2 to 3 inches on a regular bases. Might just be me still have a lot to learn.

If you have a standard .321 groove barrel and all my Douglas's are right at that. A  nearly cylindrical .322 bullet is pretty large for BSing. If you want to keep shooting that bullet, have it throated to .321 dia X at least .100 - .150 long free bore with a included 1.5 deg or less leade into the bore.

If not, get a mold that will cast about .316 - .317 on the first band and then taper back evenly to .323 base band.

Either way should make big difference in accuracy.

rhbrink I am using a 7dia. ogive bullet 1.244 in length with very good results and the bullet flies point on. Barrel is a Shilen 14 Twist 8 groove with a bore dia. of .3195. Alloy is 1-16 and bullet dia. is .321. Velocity for best accuracy is 1474avg. fps but the bullet still flies point on at 1400fps. In regards to your tipping issues the most common problem is the target backer is not flat and maybe convex, concave, not plumb, either leaning back or forward and at times cocked at an angle and not at 90 degrees to your bullets flight. All of the above will give you false impressions that the bullet is tipping by the impression of the entry of the bullet left on the target. Another issue related to tipping if one is using a spitzer with a long unsupported nose is an alloy that is to soft. When the bullet starts off the nose of the bullet is not being supported and can slump off and out of being central to the bore. This can be caused by two things one being when the bullet collapses like an accordion it can cause the nose to slump off center and the other is centrifugal force throwing the nose off center. With my 14 Twist RPM's are in the 72,500 range and that is allot of force for a long unsupported nose to resist if the bullet alloy is not providing enough strength. I have a very close friend who performed extensive nose slump tests and he found nose slumps anywhere from .002 up to .012 so the above comments are not just based on my own theory but are indeed factua

J. Louis, Your observation about the bullet's print appearing as though it was not flying point on is something that I have experienced with both lead bullets and modern jacketed bullets. Recently I shot a 100 yard 5 shot group with the 32-40 using a SAECO #632 bullet breech seated. The prints appeared as though the bullet were not point on. A few days latter I shot the same load at the same distance but with a fresh target backer. The prints were all point on!
