Cast bullet loads for a 30-30?

     Hi:

      What are some good 30-30 loads using cast bullets?  Bullet weight and powder charge.

       These loads will be fired in a Remington 788.

I've had good luck with 15 to 16 grs of 4759. Lyman bullet 311291- 170grs.

Have used the Lyman nominal 170 gr. flat point bullet sized .311 with 22 - 24 Gr. IMR4895 (1550FPS 22gr. - 1650 FPS 24gr.), 17.5 Gr IMR4198 and 23.0 -25.0 gr. IMR 3031 in a 1899 Savage.  Bulle weight from my mould is 175 gr. and primers ar CCI.  Cases are 25+ year old Winchester.  Im my rifle 23.5 gr. performs the best with five shot groups averaging between 2 1/2 and 3 inches at 100 yards with open sights.

hi
my 12 twist Uberti likes the lyman 311291 sized 309 with or with out the gc with 23 gr. 4064. Just about anything in the Lyman book for the 30/30 will shoot well in a descent gun.

About twenty years ago I went hunting for Elk with a 30 30, 94 rifle. We met up with some other hunters out in the field. One of them saw my Winchester sticking out of the scabbard on my horse.  He made the remark that I was a bit under gunned. I answered that I planned on shooting an Elk in the eye, if I saw one. They sorta just looked at me.  Then my pardner told them, if you see an Elk running around holding his eye, that will be Joe's Elk. I wasnt real serious about shooting an Elk, but wanted to go for the horseback riding and camping. And Bills cooking. 

I know, what does this have to do with 30 30 loads? Nothing I just wanted to post something.

Oh, now I remember why I had a 30 30 instead of a bolt gun. I didnt have a scabbard for a bolt gun, only a lever gun.

No rule you have to use the "correct" rifle.  I take what I want and don't care what they think.  Last few years I duck hunted never took my Shotgun.  What with two boats couple hundred decoys and the dog no time to shoot it.

I agree. Many Game Dept's haven't yet learned that a 22 bullet in the brain pan is more effective than a 44 in the ham. It still comes down to the shooter, and their ability to properly use whatever firearm they are packing. 

Hit an elk in the eye with a 30-30 and you've got meat on the table.

Lots and lots of elk have been, and continue to be, taken with a 30-30. Including 30-30s carrying cast bullet loads.
Like any big game rifle caliber, if used within it's range limitations it will kill elk consistantly. 
I often wonder about folks who claim a .300 Mag with a 180gr bullet is good elk medicine at 500 yards but claim a 30-30 with a 170gr bullet at 100 yards is marginal at best. A quick glance at the velocity/energy tables at various distances can be rather eye opening.
As far as cast bullet loads in the 30-30 I like Lyman #31141 with 28gr of H335.
