The idea is to just clean up the base. Some moulds / casters tend to drag some lead over to and off the edge of the bullet when cutting off the sprue. I do not do that but I have looked at allot of bullet bases from other competitors that do. I like to clean up the base just enough to relieve that sharp edge that everyone says is so critical. I found it impossible to get a clean sharp edge each and every time with a base pour mould and end up with a slightly rounded edge from time to time. When I am done touching up the bases they are all identical and perfectly round.
