With a wad (made from water pipe insulation) to hold the powder against the primer - Without the wad, the group size opened up to 3.305"

I've had excellent results with this powder in my Sharps. I used 25.5 grains with a 405 grain cast (Montana Bullets), Federal Primers, full length size case. Results from .75 inch to 2.0 inch five shot groups at 100 yds. Average group size for five groups of five is 1.94". Very pleasant load to shoot and very accurate.

I could never get 5744 to shoot as good as 4759 in any rifle.   ledball

The black foam pipe insulation is sold for putting on 1/2" or 3/4" copper water pipes.

For cutting .45 wads I use the a 338 Mag case with the bottle neck cut off and the end sharpened. I drill out the primer pocket hole to use an allen wrench to push out the cut wad.

I have been using this foam for years. When it comes out of the barrel it shows no signs of melting. Use of a bore scope indicates it does not result in fouling of the barrel. Instead it actually wipes out some of the fouling in the barrel with each shot.

There is a concern of pushing the wad down too far, compressing it and leaving an air gap between the wad and the bullet. Some believe you can ring a barrel by leaving an air gap between the wad and the bullet. So just push the wad down when you incert the bullet. Do not push the wad down and compress it since this could leave an air gap above the wad.
