S wartz Muzzle loader on Ruger NO 3??

Print Post
I recently bought a Ruger No 3 converted to .50 cal muzzle loader using a 209 shotgun primer.  It is well done and the barrel is marked Swartz.

Does anyone know more about the rifle or the smith.

Most of what I saw was was a NO 3 action at a reasonable price but wanted to check before I did anything to it. Undecided

Yes he was and he was also the co-author of the Modern Schuetzen Rifle by Dell & Schwartz.

J.Louis, I've heard about Wayne Schwartz being a gunsmith on single shot rifles. Did not know he co-authored the book. Learn something every day. Frank

is the gun marked Swartz or Schwartz?

Wayne Schwartz an old ASSRA guy, and co-author with Charlie Dell of the Modern Schuetzen Rifle book the ASSRA sells, is/was also a very talented gunsmith who built quite a reputation for innovative uses of the Ruger singleshots.  Wayne has been retired for some time from active participation as a shooter or gunsmith.   I know that Steve Durren has worked with him and learned a few #1/#3 tricks of the trade.

I'm sure he'd have been more than capable of turning a #3 into a Muzzle Loader.   It's something I'd like to see some time, simply as an interesting example of gunsmith creativity.

I'd kind of hate to see it altered.   Please PM me.

If Wayne did it would be worth buying and leaving as is.
Plenty of factory Rugers out there.

So far, "Swartz" has the lead.   Huh

I did the post from memory - Big Mistake!

The Ruger #3 was done by Neal Waltz in 1982.  I was able to reach the gentleman with help from this forum.

I bought it to get the action but I don't think I will take it apart after all.  I have enough projects to last quite a while plus it displays excellent workmanship and creativity on the part of Mr. Waltz.

Thanks for the help.
