That's good to hear.

I talked to Gail Shuttleworth just now. They will build one but don't have reamers Paul is doing some looking around for a rental now.   Have a call in to C-H die to see if they have ever made form dies for the Krag Neider version and will they rent a reamer

Congratulations Boats!

Can Paul cut your die using the same chamber reamer he is going to cut your chamber with?
You might want to consider buying the reamer yourself for future use and Newlon sells micrometer head and or standard die blanks just for this purpose.

That's what I am thinking, all it would need is a Form die Neck Sizer and Straight line bullet seater.

Once you get your forming die you will need a large quantity of brass to select from. Start here with a tight neck reamer for your chamber and inline seating die

Then get a fired case to Wilson for your neck sizer. And your groups will match your BS efforts

If it were me, I would have the reamer made with the the shoulder diameter and angle of the 257 Roberts. That way you can use the Roberts dies to do everything but FL sizing and for the FL sizing you can use the 30/40 die. You don't need the extra capacity of the Improved case to attain 3000 fps with a 117 gr bullet and a 28" barrel. You should be able to get around 3500 with the 87 gr, both in a 44 1/2 and a HW.

I talked to CH 4 D die today. He has made dies for all the .25 Kraigs and doubts if he made two alike.

If I get a reamer he will make up any sort of die set I need, and will make it from a drawing of the reamer. Lead time is about 6 months.   Franks idea on using the 257 angle and neck seems to be a good one.  Once the case is formed and fire formed it should not need any more than Neck sizing, and if the base gets sticky a .30 Kraig die will push it back like it should be. And of course you can make a die out of piece of barrel stub or he Newlon blanks like John recommend using the reamer too.

Anybody have a line on a reamer ?

Pacific Tool & Gauge seems to be the source for the best reamers at the present time.

Guys am going to close the 25 Krag thread down and open another .25 caliber CPA thread.   Necked Krag may work well but several different cartridge specs and obtaining reamers dies and rifle 3 different places has me a bit skeptical it's all going to come out as intended

Many moons ago (say early 1970's) I had a Shilen barrel chambered in 25 Krag put on a 78 Borchardt. I had an old paper computer (Powley?) and I have the following notes written down: Case Capacity 50; S. Dens .216 [100 grain]; Bar. Len 25.5; Exp. Rtg. 7.5; CH/BW .43; Powder 43 gr "D"; Vel. 3090 at 45,000 PSI. Powder "D" must have been 4831/4350 as that is what I tried. I also had some loading data I took from some source that said 45 grains of 4350 with a 100 grain was near max and yielded 3100 fps. Accuracy wise at the time I settled on 41 grains which gave me 2732 fps. I really need to get this one out of the safe and revisit it.

One at a time I appreciate that information.  I still like the 25 Krag idea over the Roberts Rimmed.  Have a line on a reamer and may well go for the Krag.

I think that's smart of you to re-examine the Krag.  Larger case should produce stronger velocities at the same pressure.  I think you are more likely to achieve 2900-3000 fps with 117-120 grn bullets in the larger case at reasonable pressures. Wink

Paul Shuttleworth said he found a rental reamer.  He's getting the specs now.  I am not too worried about which 25 Krag it is long as Paul does the work.

Many moons ago I had a 25 Krag Ackley Improved on a Hiwall. I was using data from 63 Gun Digest. Used it to secure 1 deer. One shot performance. I am a big fan of the Ackley Improved version. Kept the 100 grainer at around 3100 and the 87 grainer at 3300. Great performers...You would not be disappointed with this on a Highwall.
PS this cartridge was developed on a Krag rifle. Note that "most" of the data was on a Krag rifle thats why its seems low.  Working pressure strength of 45000, Hiwall is a lot stronger than a Krag. So much improved ballisticly.
