pre made PP cartridges

I have searched (so far in vain) for a commercial site that could  supply a complete PP cartridge in 45/110.

I am learning about reloading my own but would like to see a properly made commercial version in this caliber. Any suggestions? as to a source

Thanks

Frank

They really aren't that hard to assemble.  If you want sufficient info, just check out the Shiloh forums.  I shoot paper patch in a couple of .45-110's as well as other cartridges.

In a rifle with a modern grease groove chamber you can get quite good accuracy with something like this:

.45 Basic Norma brass. Full length size the case and do not expand.  You'll find that the case mouth inside diameter will be nearly perfect for a bore diameter patched bullet.
Fill the case with Fg powder to just short of the case mouth.  Use a 0.030" wad, 1/8" lube cookie of your favorite lube, and another wad of 0.030".
The powder charge will want to be compressed such that after the wad is inserted you have .010" left in the case to seat a bullet.
Wrap a .442" to .446" bullet (I use various moulds fom Buffalo Arms cast in 20:1) with 8 or 9 lb onion skin paper such that, when dry, the wrapped bullet measures very close to bore diameter.
Finger seat it into the case and you are done.
You can buy moulds, paper patch templates, and paper from Buffalo Arms.

Paper patching isn't the tricky thing that some make it out to be. But it's not for everyone.
Just jump right in.  The water is warm Smiley

Another thought.  If you log into the Shiloh forum you might be lucky enough to find someone near you to show you and assembled round.  If you are anywhere near Vancouver B.C. Canada I'd be happy to.

Frank,
I'm not aware of any new-manufacture rounds for sale, but you could probably find an original.  It wouldn't be cheap.

I do not know if a original would help me as I want to see just how a PP cartridge is assembled correctly. A original would I expect be a bit costly to disassemble. I may have to hunt up someone who does know how to make PP cartridges and buy a couple from him. I have just about every book on PP cartridges so I rather understand their construction but seeing the real thing in hand would be very helpful to me.

Back in the day, the ammunition companies employed 12-year old girls to patch & assemble the bullets.  Lots of dexterity in small fingers and you did not have to pay them much.  Plus maybe a half a cup of gin at the morning break, another after lunch and maybe a third with the afternoon break.  I think a 55-hour week was standard.  Want to try that now?

Hmmm.  A half cup of gin eh?  I might try that on my next patching session Smiley

I live in Kenmore WA 15 min north of Seattle.  Yes, I understand that its not to complicated to make a PP cartridge but I need to see one that's properly made before I try. I am happy to pay for some that are made up or I have some 50 used and 100 new 45-110 cases.
could trade.
