Trying to bring back a Stevens tip up sporting rifle in .22.
Questions:
#1 Trigger guard blue or nickel?
#2 Hammer and trigger blue or nickel?
#3 Height, length and profile of the front    barrel sight?
Hope someone with a good original can help me out.
Thanks, Andy

1. Nickel if the frame is nickel.
2. Blued.
3. They varried. Will look at mine when I get a chance. Not sure if it is original or not.

I have four of them and none of the front sights are the same and all look as if they have been filed to size. No real help I am afraid.

I guess now I can proceed. For the front sight will start with half of a circle. Tip-up is a homely
little rifle but I have grown fond of it. Have fitted a TJ liner and new breech face.
Thank you Gentlemen, Andy

My tip-up had a Beech front sight which, along with the ladder type tang sight, was probably worth more than the rest of the rifle!  Roll Eyes

Froggie,
The last "Single Shot Exchange" has a nice article on the Tip-Up written by William Roth Jr., first of four to be printed. Rifle described has your ladder sight with a globe front. Would like to find another one in a shootable light CF. Might be fun to carve a new barrel out of a blank and make the effort copying Stevens target sights. Yeah right, need another project.

Andy,

My "go to guy" for sights is Ken Bean from the York, PA area.  He sets up at many of the big mid-Atlantic shows as well as OGCA.  I got the globe sight you need (the "basic" one) from him because it also fits the Maynard dovetail.  He's a good guy to deal with, and I may be able to find his contact info if you would like (?)
