Anybody,  what f grade do you use to load  the .22 case to launch a 33 grain bullet and are there any problems that I should be aware of.  I will be breachseating? Thanks for your answer, Hank Smiley

Sorry about that, but I don't think I would even try it. Best of luck and let us know the results. The guys are getting better results from .22 RF black powder than I expected, so it might work with very fine powder.

I read some where some one was shooting pellets powered by the primer indoors. I would try a solid pellet lubed with Lee Alox and whatever powder you can get into the case

I load for a Ballard chambered for the 22 WCF, (or at least I try to.)  I have yet to find an acceptable BP load, BUT, when I tried BP, I did not use a BP specific lube.   I practically needed to swab the bore while the bullet was traveling down the tube.  Actually, I did a whole lot of things incorrectly but I still had a good time and learned from it.  I was using fffG and a 48 grain lead bullet.  Today, I would use a good lube, settle my powder in the case and see what would happen.

I am one of those who uses an air rifle pellet propelled by just a primer.  Accuracy is enough to keep varmints away from my garden but not enough to win any matches.  The Hornet and the WCF are just fun cartridges, but sometimes the twist gets in the way of good shooting.  Other times it is my finger on the trigger that messes things up.

I had my gunsmith open-up some  fire formed /neck sized 223 cases to accept shotgun primers and use 22 cal pellets and it works great in my Highwall. The only problem is that the primers contain lead (per telephone conversation with Federal). They recommended that I shoot them in a well ventilated area.

What brass do you use for your .22CF?

Convert-a-pell is a toy. Nearly useless. Save your money and buy a decent airgun. Just MHO. Wink

It is the 22 WCF and I use the Hornet casing for my reloads.  Originally I had V.M. Starr reline and chamber the Ballard for the 22 Hornet cartridge.  Two shots later and I realized it was a "bit" much for the Ballard.  Some research turned up the 22 WCF as a forerunner to the Hornet and loaded with black powder.  Eventually, I will get it to shoot accurately but for know it is a lot of fun and frustration.

Hello, everyone,  I shoot cast in my Shilen barreled Borchardt.  it has 1-14" twist & will stabilize 55gr. bullets.  You might try either IMR 4227 or 4759 with light loads.  TrailBoss might be another.  I use 7.0grs. H4227, with a Leeth nose-pour 55gr. It is accurate at 100yds.

I don't have any experience with BP loads for the .22 Hornet.. but.. it is my favorite round and has been for many years. I have a 1951 mdl 43 winchester that consistently shoots clover leafs [< .5"] at 100 yards.
Its favorite diet: = Remington brass, Sierra #1210 45 grain SP, Winchester Small Pistol Primer, and 12.8 grains of Lil-Gun.

Maybe not.  In the early days of the .22 Lovell quite a few were built on Ballard actions.  I've actually got one built by Sedgley, and on a cast Marlin action at that.  The Lovell was often cranked up to insane pressures, (60K psi), and I have no intention of doing that, if only to preserve brass.  I keep my loads down to 35K psi, (per Quickload) and have fired maybe 100 rounds thru it so far.    It locks up very, very tight, which is a key factor.

Am very interested in results of this. I have a stevens tip up in .22wcf and have had almost zero chace to shoot it. I have an old Ideal tong tool for it with the mold on the end. Am going to try it some more. Have been thinking of trying a full case of trailboss in it. If I get this going I will relay my results.

I am dealing with an original bore that is a bit dark but still all there....if that makes sense!
