reloading the 11mm mauser

i have a nice 71-84 mauser that i have been reloading for, but recently came across a couple heavy moulds. as the standard bullet seems to be about 370 gr. i am wondering if anyone has used the lyman 446187 it weighs 470 gr. as it is a full hundred gr. heavier if anyone has used it and could help with loading data i would appreciate it. it probably would be safe with a case full of 2f black powder but i really dont want to hurt my rifle or myself. thanking you in advance joe gifford aka argie1891

The RCBS mold for 11 mm Mauser makes an excellent bullet. Bullets come out 370-400 grs. If memory serves correctly the twist is 1-20. 470 gr is a little on the heavy side. My 71-84 was very accurate out to 600 yds with that bullet and smokeless loads.

Any "trapdoor" 45-70 load data can be safely used in the 11mm Mauser.

Joe,
Right now, there is a "like new" .43 Spanish mould and sizer die for sale in the classifieds for a righteous $50 price. If it is Lyman #439186, it will likely shoot well in your 11mm. That's the mould I've always used.

Here is an article about reloading the 71 and 71/84.  You might find it of interest.

My 71 prefers 28 grains of SR 4759 with a Lyman 446110 HP sized .446. I have a note on my loading card that there are loads in the 74 Gun Digest.
