Hello, This is my first time in a forum so I apologize if I am in the wrong place.
I have had two Ray Morgan guns for over forty years and know nothing about them. I goggled Mr. Morgan name today and got little info about him. I did learn that there are people that do follow this man work and his guns and his work has importance. The guns I own are a 22 Lr and a 7mm Mauser.
The 7mm has a serial number that I would have to take the scope off to read. I have never done this, as I am unfamiliar with guns in general. The 22 has no serial number that I can find. I took the wood part off the gun last night and found nothing.
The barrel is stamped Ray Morgan new haven Conn, and 22 LR.
My grandfather was a collector and the story goes he was the second best shot in the world in his youth. He died in 1985 he was in his 70s. I met him only a few times his name was Dean Carey of Arizona. I have had these guns since I was sixteen I am now 51. I vaguely remember being told the 22 had a bull barrel that was used or from the Olympic games in the 30s, I think. I could be wrong. All my family is gone and I have no one to ask. When I dismantled the 22 it has a trigger with a spring infront. I have used these guns all my life but they are still in good shape. If I would of known the history and importance of the guns I would have been more careful with them.
I have some browning shot guns that were given to me the same time and I can find serial numbers on all, but not the 22.
I am thinking of selling these to someone who would appreciate them, as my son would not. I will leave him my AR/15 and he will be happy with that, "kids today". I need to get my estate in order soon so if anyone can steer me in the write direction I would be forever in your debt. I have only been able to find 2-3 sentence of information on Ray Morgan.
Thank you very much. Bill from Alaska.
