The cite testing was done at Aberdeen Proving Grounds with the rifle held/clamped down and the looker able to move the target about with servos etc. Position was, target was moved, target was adjusted to align with the sights, position was recorded, ...
As noted, no test was done with aperture front and rear sights.
Perhaps one of you would be interested in doing some testing.
If a target were set up at, say, 100 yards; and if a rifle were clamped down on a secure bench; then repeatedly zeroing a micrometer rear sight on the target would tell the story. Align the sights, record the settings, move the sights off the bull, align the sights, record the settings...
A rifle isn't required, merely, say, a piece of wood or metal with the sights mounted.
I'll contribute a micrometer adjustable rear sight if anyone is interested.
Interesting winter project? Could be done from indoors, looking at the target through a window.

Don't see the point of testing when it's a individual eye sight issue. One person will see it different than somebody else.   It is a fact that as eyes age they accommodate long to short less than when young. I know my longer barrels resolve front sights better than short. Since I am far sighted that's what you would expect. My distance eyesight is almost as good as it ever was, Short have to use a pocket magnifier to set my sights

As far as across all shooters I am satisfied on the  strong preference for putting the front sight way out there. Just look at David Tubbs outfit he has an extension that's at least 12 inches long clamped to the muzzle of his match rifle.  Tubb has quite a lot to say about it in his new book. Guys I see may be Tubb copycats but all say the extensions work well

Would be interested in more detail though if somebody else wants to test.
