Nice guns. The .22-15 is a scarce chambering. The rear sight on the .25-20 is one I have not see before. I can read smokeless on it. Is there a manufacturer's name on it anywhere?

Winchester. Another post suggested that it came from a Winchester 94. I  hope to find an original sight to replace this one.

The photo of the Stevens 44 in 22-15 shows the lever drooping down a bit. Will it rise to the level shown in the photo of the 25-20 Single Shot and stay there?  What is the condition of the inside of the 22-15 barrel?

yes, the level locks into place. After much cleaning the bore appears to be nearly perfect.

The ejector on the 22.15ss is at 7:00 if that means anything.

The off-center ejector means that the action was made in the 1890s.  As I understand it, the switch to the center ejector.  There is no definitive record of Stevens serial numbers, but I have a 44 action with a center ejector, with a 28-30 barrel.  Serial number is in the 26,000 to 28,000 range.  Stevens only made that combination between 1900 and 1903.  The 16,XXX range of the 22-15 says to me that it was probably made between 1896 and 1898.

LWB, have you removed the fore-end and looked at the face of the action for markings?  What numbers are there?

There is a 44 on the right side and a O or zero on the left.

Is the scope on the 22.15ss of the same period?

Re: the numbers on the front of the 22-15 action. We have discussed the "o" on this forum several times.  IIRC, the consensus is that no one knows what it means.

Your 22-15 is then a "plain Jane" Stevens 44.  I think it is relatively rare for an ordinary 44.  In "Single Shot Rifles", James Grant wrote that the 22-15 was first introduced in 1896.  He also says that the 6:00 extractor was introduced in 1901.  I wrote 1900 in an earlier post and stand corrected.  I still think your rifle was made between 1896 and 1898.

Thank you. I'm beginning to understand a little about  these rifles. I still have 4 Favorites, a marksman, a crackshot, and a 44 shot to wade through.

Regarding your question about how to attach more than one picture.

To the left of the box to attach your picture, there is a + next to the word attachments. Click on that and it will open a new box under the first one.
