I'm getting lost here. Is the picture that I posted, the front sight on my #16, a Winchester sight?
Has anyone here owned or seen in person a Maynard wind gauge front sight?

Looks like a Marlin sight to me Joe.  Same sight that was used on the Ballard rifle.  

Hard to tell from that angle. Winchester and Marlin WG sights are very similar. The Marlin being shorter in length.  Below is an original Marlin sight on a Ballard.

From what I'm seeing, both the 1880 Maynard catalog cut, and the pictures on the front and rear covers of Stroebels book show a second knurled screw on the Maynard front windgauge sight that appears  to be used only to retain the sight inserts. 

The pictures of the sights on the Remingtons that Joe (westerner) found seem to show that the clip is only used to install a spirit level on the Maynard sight, as the slots for the clip do not appear to have been milled back far enough to engage the inserts.
