Hello, everyone. Well, Sunday was nice & I headed for range. Set uo at 50yd. All loads used Ideal 25730, 100gr. & SPG This time I had added a grease cookie to loads..1/16" B.W. wad over powder, 1/16 & 1/8" SPG grease cookie & bullet seated on grease.
Blow tubed between shots, accuracy around 2"-3." No baked on fouling at breech.
I next tried duplex loads using SR4759..Started all over again with 20.0gr. 3FG Swiss & 2.0gr.4759. Went up 1gr. until I got to 22.0gr. & then for some reason I went up to 24.0..all loads used 2.0gr. smokeless.
Accuracy with duplex about the same as with straight black..this puzzled me. Bore now looked like it was shot with a very low dirty burning
4227 start load..lands visible, but grooves choked full of fouling.
Got the idea to use blow tube between shots..Using the 22.0gr. load, Group shrunk to 1".
One thing I noticed right away..With a full case of black..I can get over 25gr. of 3FG Swiss in these RCM cases, Case practically fell out of chamber.
Now however, starting with the 22.0gr. Swiss & 2.0gr. 4759...There was just the slightest hint of friction on case coming out of chamber.
The 24.0 & 25.0 Swiss loads definatly were getting sticky.
I then tried some loads with 2.5gr. SR4759 against primer..Accuracy around 1" still needed blow-tube between shots.
At 25.0gr. Swiss..Case sticking was becoming alarming..had to use thumbnail to remove..& then on my last shot..I got a case seperation!
I was sweating bullets with a B.P. fouled brl. with 1/2 case in there!
At home, I tapped bullet in muzzle & thru bore, removing broken case.
No harm done.
Now I am wondering, I know I can stick with straight black..but the idea of swabing after each shot doesn't appeal.
Since with this small bore, I had to blow-tube anyway, I could try reducing the SR4759 to 1-1.5 gr.?
I know there are many opinions on this but.. Would a light, straight smokeless load of suitable powder be advised?
