I had the pleasure of signing one of his targets...a 250 shot with this barrel, with the sights held on with bubble gum (pink epoxy) and wire.

Hey Dave,
Do I need to bust up my cement slab and send a piece of rebar to Ron for my new barrel?

I'm not quite following either. Does the outside of the barrel look like a piece of rebar with a spiral twist in it?

Are there pictures?

having seen it , touched it,  what can one say  beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  this would make some one we know (CB) proud of this rifle  the only thing missimg was a stock full of bondo and some bailing wire.  You dance with what you brought and at this dance even thou a bit on the ugly side sure knew how to do a watz with finese.   Next thing we will see is a chrome bumber or a steel I- beam shooting 250's  and the rest of us going to the junk pile to find a new barrel and let Ron do his magic

that is my 2 cents worth

Gentlemen at first thought, I had thoughts about someone playing with less than a full deck. However seeing is believing. Now watch the run on large diameter rebar. Frank

Good Grief, I have a gold mine of this stuff as my oldest son is an iron worker. I have a piece that is 2 inches aer darn near. That would make a good rail gun barrel. This guy in the pics looks like a number 8 which is one inch. It would be nice to know what grade this bar is in as it comes in different grades. Some can even welded on.

Tom mentioned that it was weldable.

Rebar is weldable but has it's own welding procedure that must be followed.

Rebar is measured in eighths of an inch. 8 iron being one inch in diameter.  11 iron being 1 3/8ths diameter.  In the early days it came in square form.  Also spiral form ( what I thought Tom had used ). Toms barrel looks to be a modern piece of rebar.  There are different grades of rebar, schedule forty and sixty being the most common.  Rebar color hardens with beautiful colors.  Ron Long used to use it for small parts.

The solid rib on both sides of the rebar is for ease of placement, or threading the iron as rodbusters put it. Such as threading the iron through rebar columns to form girders.  Threading also happens when the boss screws up and you have to thread the iron into existing rod work.
