Clamp-On Front Sight?

Hello, everyone.  I have a Pope barreled 6 1/2 Rigby Ballard  .22 L.R. prone match rifle.  Custom stocked.  It has scope blks. on brl.  There is a small filler screw at top of brl. about 1/2" in back of muzzle.
Is this for some type of front sight clamp?  The tang is of course drilled for tang sight..filler screws in now.  But the original circa 1930's era re-case doesn,t show any signs of there having been a sight base mounted..but-stock has high comb..tang sight wouldn't be able to be folded..would have to remove staff  for cleaning and/or transport.  This is why I think they might have used a tube-sight mounted on scope blks.  Has anyone ever seen such a clamp-on front, for use with tube sight?  Thanks alot!

All though they are not of a traditional design Sinclair International does sell clamp on front sights that are typically used on Palma Rifles that could possibly fit your needs.

Another option would be to fabricate a full length tube site like the one pictured below.

Hello, J Louis.  Thanks for reply..I have been looking at those sinclair sights!  I never new about a full length tube until I saw yours.  What type of inserts and how are they held in place?  Thanks.

Hello, I am still puzzled though about that one #8 screw 1/2" back from muzzle on top of brl.  When it was set up, why didn't they just drill another & use a scope block?

As a machinist, I can tell you this........... It takes less time and you don't have to worry about matching the spacing of 2 screws (especially if it's done on a drill press and not a milling machine), You can't do it on a barrel that has a flat (such as octagon) but, if it's a round barrel and the sight is contured to match it or it has a V cut in the bottom of the sight, it will work just as well as 2 screws (assuming it's near the center of the sight mount), especially it being the stronger #8 screw.

Hello, frnkeore.  Thanks for reply.  That makes alot of sense..one screw easier to do on drill press & no worry of 2nd. screw match up alignment.  The brl. has scope blks.,  the only reason I wanted a front sight was to use a tube type rear sight..mounted on blks.  I talked to Gary Quinlan..he thought since this is an early 1930 gun, a Winchester globe front would look good & be correct.  I am just wondering how to mount this sight.  I can machine a contoured to brl. block & use single screw to hold in place..but wondering how to get around hammering that dovetail base of Win. sight in place..also would need to pound off to remove block..Perhaps a small set screw & "gib" in femail dovetail?
I know this is alot of fooling around just to mount a front..but really don't want to drill & tap a Pope brl!
The only other way would be to find a reproduction or original full length "tube sight"  I understand a company in Ohio called Buckeye made them in various lengths?

Pictures of the things your working with would help. I'm not quite following you, I guess.
