We went the pivot route to keep the Buff out of the way when the range is set for Conventional NRA Silhouette, See the Ram stands behind the Buff ? Laying down will also keep the AR's from ruining it.  Winch & Pipe pulls out of the stand while shooting & gets locked away between matches.

We are told springs vs hanging from Chains makes a better ring when the bullet hits.

Whole pole pulls out of the ground winch and all. We will also lay some railroad times in front of the apparatus.  Berm in front ought to protect it but never know. What with the trajectory of our BP Rounds something out of sight can still get hit on the way down.

Of course the Black Rifle boys can drive down range and shoot him while he's down. Bet somebody does too.   

I shot the plywood mock up with my 38/55 offhand. It's a pretty easy target almost 48 inches, nearly 10 moa wide.  We did paint a white center on the prototype made it easier I figure. Elevation it's about 7 or 8 moa Whats going to be harder is a 18 inch bucket swinger at 300   Zero center it's only 9 inches out to miss windage wise.   

We shoot monthly at 200 on swingers, nice turn out and some real good offhand shooters show up. This additional match will push them some. Particularly the bucket. I expect the Buffalo to be hit 100 % by some.

Ours is a cash match too.  15 dollar entry and most of the money is paid back to competitors. 1 2 3 & 10th place. 40 shots at 200 on regulation NRA CLA rams hung from Chains. Scored by the off relay with spotting scopes.
 
Not sure how to handle the Buff, some thought to re-entry some to single entry some to only holding the longer range match a few times a year. Daylight savings plenty of time. Winter time might run short if the side Buffalo match takes too long.

We hold the single shot matches after NRA Regulation High Power Silhouette is finished. Lately only 3 or 4 guys shooting HP it while 2 or 3 dozen shoot the single shot match.   Same thing small bore were we run Regulation in the morning, mostly the same dozen shooters, Then Lever and Single Shot on Swingers in the afternoon with a cash pay out,  twice as many show up.

I used to be MD for BPCS, same schedule,  when HP was finished.  Poor turn out we dropped the program.

Formal NRA silhouette is dwindling around here.  Single shots simpler matches more shooters all the time. The Uberti and Mintori single shots have put a lot of guys on the line too.

What color were your pumps?

I took a few shots in it's direction, but knowing that my sight wouldn't adjust THAT high I was just using Kentucky 'elevation'.   

I think if you made it from .080" sheet metal it would last a LONG time.   

With iron sights it does take someone spotting for you.
