Die Guide Rod.

Hello, everyone.  Well the RCM cases arrived & I have started the loading process for the .25-25 Stevens Ballard.  I have decided to start with Swiss black, on acount of it being a No. 3 cast action..at least for initial loadings anyway.  I wanted to use fixed ammo for the black powder loadings..I have breech seater & may try that method in future.  The problem is in loading that L-o-n-g case in conventional loading dies.  I have an RCBS 3 die set.  That case is 3.37 long & tends to tip in press..possibility of case mouth hitting die..not good with cases costing $2.25!  To compound the problem..I only wanted to partially size case..about 3/16-1/4"...that die is now way up in press, and have to work by feel..& I don't feel like getting finger pinched !  I made some measurements & turned up a 1/4" brass rod with tapered rounded end.  This threads in de-capping rod cap.  Now I just line mouth up with rod & no more worries!
I had to make up custom expander punches for expander die..I am using one same dia. as bullet .258" & seems to work ok.  For bullet seating..found I had same problem with seater die being up in press, in order for case mouth to clear crimping shoulder.  I have been using an Ideal #3 Special .25-25 with it's dbl. adj. chamber for seating.
