European "Parlor Rifle" PICS ADDED

Print Post
We had a rifle come in the shop today that is a German , Austrian or whatever "Parlor Rifle" for the 4mm rimfire I believe . Tommorrow if I get a chance I'll post pics and any distinguishing marks . I think the guy wants to sell it and I wouldn't mind having it as long as neither of us get screwed in the process !

This one has the profile of a Martinni action .

I have a Zimmer Schuetzen in the mail. If you are looking for information Pryamydair has as good article under zimmerstutzen.  Also Neal Stepp at International Shooters Service imports both lengths of cases and a number of the ball sizes.
Check the web for these sights.

I am having a hard time deciphering the manufacturers name on this one !

I am also thinking this one is in the $300-400 range does tha sound realistic ?

Looks to me as if the forend is not original and certainly the screw isn't .Also the action is pitted a bit . I am wondering if the whole thing was electroplated at some point after it got to the USA as well ?

Looks like someone may have used the ole wire wheel on that one.

I think you're in the ballpark on price.  The ole wire wheel really knocks value down.

Looks like a candidate for conversion to a 22 rimfire.  I have seen such a conversion and it appears to work pretty well.  Just replace the Zimmer barrel & chamber with a match-grade 22 RF liner.

I had one done like that. Didnt work. A .22 shell doesnt have enough primer in it to propel a ball.   The last thing I would do to this rifle is mess up the one thing that hasnt been messed with.   There goes my sharp tongue again.

Oh, I didnt mention, it wont be legal to shoot in Zimmerstutzen matches either.

After reading my post I've decided it's not near sharp enough.  Turning this rifle into a .22 would dump it into the Parkenfarker category.  Angry   (  There, thats better.

You don't try to shoot it as a zimmer any longer, & do not to use just a primed 22 shell.  It is just a 22 with a short length of barrel. Maybe you only shoot Shorts.  Yup, it's certainly a Parkenfarker after you do that, but it is at least usable, more or less.

The other option would be to convert it to a regular 22 RF breech loader, but that might be a lot of work.

It may shoot fine as is with the correct ammo. It's available.

There is no way in h _ _ _ I would chamber a Stiegel system to .22 short.
It's not strong enough in my humble opinion.

One that i saw done about 30 years ago used a 17 caliber rifle barrel and was chambered for large rifle primers.
if this one is in working order i would get the 4mm cases and correct size round ball and use it as is.

If you're referring to the names in the circles on the loading action, this is "Stiegele System" which is the style of loading mechanism.

Well if it's completely functional and you can get it for 300-400 go for it. I'd shoot it as is, there's good 4mm ammo availability. The metal finnish is suspicious at best, the forend, as has been stated is replacement and I'd guess the stock refinnished with some type poly. It's a shooter with little/no collector value IMHO.

I had contemplated getting it if the person wanted to sell it . But since I consider myself a shooter/thats likes to collect as well I don't see a whole lot of reason to waste $300 on it !
