Ain't the Internet wonderful. One day wonder expert on something I knew nothing about a few hours ago John Walters Rifles of the world off Goggle Books if anybody wants the full reference

417 Produced 1932 and replaced the 47.  44 action target stocked

417 1/2 same as a 417 44 action but lighter sporting stock

417-0 44 action Lyman 521 receiver sight

417-2 44 action Lyman 144 tang sight

417-3 44 action Supplied with no sights

418 Lyman 144 tang sight (think the 418's were favorites not 44's

418 1/2 Lyman 2 A tang sight

Correct ?

Sounds about right. I also have a copy of the original Stevens literature on these if you want. The 418 is actualy an enlarged Favorite. Barrel is slip in and not threaded. Came in .22 LR, .22 Short, .22WRF and .25 Stevens. They are also very accurate. I have Lr, Short, and .25 RF. Still looking for .22WRF. Pm if you want some photo copys.

I don't have them in front of me, but my brother owns both a 44 and a 417.  My impression is that the 417 is a 44 type action but a bit bigger and better made.  That is from memory, I will look at them side by side next weekend.  The 417 Hornet chambering should be avoided, the factory discontinued them when it proved to be a bad idea.  If I had one of those, I would be very cautious with loading it.

Trust me, I am very careful loading it. .233 bullets required rather than .224. Light end factory loads and I do not shoot it much.
