In the 44 series, starting around 1896, they had the Ideal Walnut Hill No. 49 which was dropped around 1916. They also had an Ideal Walnut Hill No. 50 (a fancier stocked version of the No. 49) available from about 1897 to 1916, and supposedly revived from 1927 to 1932. Calibers available for the No. 49 and 50 were supposed to be the same as those listed for the Ideal No. 45. Then in 1932, Savage moved the Walnut Hill label over to the "modernized" Stevens 417 and 418 series rifles. Hope this helps some. BP

	Thks, I have reproduction Stevens catalogs from pre WW I. covering the two digit numbered Stevens. It's the 3 digit post WW II's I don't have any frame of reference. Walnut hill 417's and such Was 1932 the first Savage year ? or point me to a good book or web site that sorts it out Boats

	Boats, Not sure how accurate this is as there's inconsistencies in the stories. Westinghouse had it during the war years and a bit after. There's been mention on this forum that this time period is when the Stevens records were lost. Anyway, some say Savage got Stevens in 1920. But there's also a version that Savage got an interest in Stevens in 1920, and in 1936 they finally got full control of Stevens. BP

	This gun finaly sold for $3020 with no reserve. It had been listed before with a reserve and was bid up to $3235 and did not met the reserve. Seemed high to me but it did sell for that price. There is still another one on Gunbroker that had a $1800 minimum bid and had no bids. Has been relisted again. There is also a nice 417 recently listed. Curious to see how that one goes. Last time I looked it had a $1000 bid and had not met the reserve yet.
