Walnut Hill 417 1/2 on Gunbroker

Anyone else watching this one? I was thinking $2500 would be a lot for this one. Guess I am behind the current market. I have been looking for one of these for a while and it is nice but I am thinking the current price is too much. Am I right on this  or just not up  with current prices? A buddy of mine just bought the same scope with the original wooden box for $500.

The reserve price is so far out of line that the seller must be off his meds.  I recently bought one just like it (95%++ condition)  complete and correct but no scope for $1200 from another collector.  The 10X Lyman STS will go for between $500 and $800 on eBay.  417 and 417 1/2 are not often seen, so I would consider $2500 for the outfit a top price.
Cheers,
Leon

I thought the buy it now was nuts myself. I am still looking for one if anyone here wants to part with one. I paid $1700 for my 417 1/2 in .22 Hornet a few years back. It is almost that nice but it is in ,22 Hornet which is realy hard to find. Had correct sights but no scope. I put a mint $300 Lyman 438 on it which is the factory option.

Well I thought he was off when I saw the BIN price, but seeing it reach over $3100 today makes me wonder if I haven't lost touch with the market? It does have a great Lyman tang sight in addition to the scope that would sell for probably $300 or more alone.
I would have guessed it went in the $2700-$2800 range and stopped, but it's still going up, so I guess we'll see what it ends at to decide what it's worth.

Looks to me like the rifle is not original. Looks like the stock has been refinished.  You can see the oil staining under the finish at the butt plate.
Dont think It's in as good of shape as the pictures show.  What is that in the stock, under the lever?

I had noticed the stain on the butstock but did not think too much of it. Finish looks right to me but I have been wrong before. What I did notice last night was that the butplate is checkered and the one on my 417 1/2  has horosintal groves in the middle of it and is not checkered.  The final bid was $3125 and it was a no sale. It has been relisted with a $4250 buy it now, down from $4500. I do not think he will ever get his minimum bid unless he lowers it.
I had put in a bid on this one earlier. Finaly rememberd last week that I had had a conversation last fall with a guy about a 417 1/2 through a want ad I had put in the Single Shot Exchange and had passed because I was short of cash at the time. Called the guy back last week. Still had it. Lyman 17A front sight, no rear sight, replacement ruber butplate, 100% bore, 95% to 98% blue, 98% wood, no sling swivels. Guy wanted $1200. Decided it was a good deal and sent him a check last week. Ordered sling swivels from Numrich. They had them. I have the correct Lyman 144 sight that I recently bought on GunBroker and have a couple of Lyman 438's that I have picked up over the years. The only part I am missing is the correct butplate and looking at it, it could be easily made if necessary. I am going to have a lot less than $3000 in it when I am done.

Sling swivels arrived from Numrich. Rusty set of swivels for a Savage 19 NRA. I have one but do not need sling swivels. Email to Numrich on the way. Bought 2 for my 418 a couple of years back and they were the right one. 417 1/2 is in route.

Geez, why am I not surprised that Numrich sent the wrong swivels?

1932 to 1947 according to Frank de Haas. My early blued frame gun does not have an X marked barrel. Anyone know when that started? Also have seen checkered butplates and ones with horizontal grooves. My early .22  with blued frame and later .22 Hornet with case colored frame also have different stocks. The .22 looks more like a 417 than 417 1/2 stiock. Supposedly the 417 was offered in .22 short and the 417 1/2 was offered in .22 WRF and .25 Stevens. Anybody have one of these or ever seen one?

The original gun is now relisted with no reserve and there is an additional one up with an $1800 starting bid. Curious as to what these both sell for.

Here is the GB gun re-listed with no reserve, Auction # 236928312

Note the seller claims the Walnut Hill range is the oldest in the country. Guess he never shot with the New Braunfels guys

"The New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein (NB Shooting Club) is a rifle club that traces its roots prior to July 4, 1849 , when German immigrants, who bought shares in the club in Germany before settling the town of New Braunfels in 1845.  The club was officially organized July 4, 1849. "

I don't know my Walnut Hills. Only reference I have is Sharpe's The Rifle in America, just prior to WW II  More than one Walnut Hill listed, however he has only one picture and no description of the different models.  Anybody have a good Reference to consult ?
