DARR LUBE PUMP ?

Print Post
One of our older members [well older than me !] was cleaning out his garage and brought some items out to the range today. One was a Darr mould and this grease pump. He did not remember having it but used to know the folks at Saeco in Carpenteris Ca. in the 70s and early 80s. Anyone know if they made pumps as well as the re-de cappers and breech seating tools?

Tom, it is a very close/accurate reproduction of the original lube pumps furnish by Mr. Harry M.Pope with the delivery of his rifles or purchased separately.

There was a move among ASSRA Forum members last year to have the gentleman who made such reproductions return from retirement and recast and machine these Pope pumps.  I don't have his name on the top of my head at the moment.  However, I can tell you that the proposed 2010 run of the pumps never came to fruition due to the then quoted price of $400 per copy.

I will get the name for you of the original producer of the repro pumps. plus the name of the ASSRA Forum poster who brought the information I've just mentioned to the forefront.

The person who I recall communicating with on this Forum was Mr. Joe Ruth.  He apparently, as recently as last summer/fall, had the patterns necessary to make an additional quantity of the Pope pumps.

I believe I misspoke when I said $400 per copy, when in actuality it was $450 per copy at last year's materials costs.

Tom and others-
Yes I did make reproduction Pope lube pumps prior to joining SAECO Reloading, along most of the loading tools for breech seating bullets.  Claude Roderick furnished me with the casting pattern. They are shown in my yellow jacket catalogs beginning in 1972 till 1977. Just by looking at it, the clamp portion of the original Pope's is a bit more square in shape. Tom as you know I knew Jim D. quite well and he probably purshased it from me in late 76 or early 77 when I joined up with SAECO. Back in the 70's there was not much of a demand for lube pumps. In total I never made more than 25 of them. Remember membership of the ASSRA was less than 500 in them days and certainly no internet was available to do business.
Regards,
B.W.Darr

Thank you Barry, I was pretty sure it had to be yours but none of my Darr catalogues showed it.
Jim is doing well going on fifteen years after his kidney transplant I will tell him hello for you he shoots with us every Wednesday.
CM I remember the Ruth posts and posted a picture of his pump that I have but recall the first run was 150.00.
Ok, Mad Mike some Wednesday will be fine, just remember we have no yellow line with some hulk blowing his whistle and yelling at everyone.
