Military discount at Home Depot & Lowe's

Hey guys,

I don’t know how many of you are in the military or are a military veteran, but if so are you aware that Home Depot will give you a 10% discount on purchases up to $500.  The discount applies to any active, retired or honorably discharged veteran.  If you don’t have a military ID to present at checkout they will accept a DD Form 214 with an ID.  There are some restrictions.  I’m in the process of building a 20’x24’ gunsmith workshop and will be making good use of the discount.  Assuming the building will cost around ten grand, that’s a savings of $1000.

Lowe’s offer’s a similar discount but only for active, reserve or retired military.  Being only an honorably discharged veteran does not qualify for the Lowe’s discount as they specifically said they will not accept a DD Form 214 (although some Lowe’s stores said they would).  I also called both the corporate offices of Home Depot and Lowe’s to verify the details.

By the way, while checking the details I found that some of the local HD store and many of the sales clerks are confused about the program so don’t take no for an answer.  One of the stores I visited had a very clear laminated corporate office instructions sheet with the details.  Even the Customer Service lady that produced the instruction sheet was confused until we both read the details.  At 1st she insisted that a DD Form 214 was not accepted as proof, which she later recanted after reading the instructions from the corporate office.

I've used their discount several times but usually forget to ask for it.  Another place that gives the Vets discount is Bass Pro Shop.

I work for lowes and know at my kansas city store the management is proud of the military discount and remind us almost daily to mention it to customers. I work a lot of special order stuff and know a lot of vets are very happy to find out about it.

I also posted the same opening comments on the Shiloh Rifle forum and received comments about Home Depot's active support of the Gay Rights agenda.  If you are interested go to

MM,
I'll have to check into USPS card.

By the way, in reference to their active support of Gay Rights, my son worked at Home Depot for a few years while attending college.  He just sent me a note saying they referred to the place as "Homo Depot".

texasmac - We don't mind that you are gay and the fact you want to come out on this board is fine. This is the USA and we are all Americans here and have the same rights. And congrats to HD for supporting your right to be who you want to be. I'm still hoping to buy a copy of your book.

I was very pleased to have the sales person give me an additional 10% veterans discount on my GE (also made in the USA) appliances last fall. Did not know they did so, but the salesperson stepped right up and ask if I was. Did have to bring in my DD214, as it was a full four large applicances, so added up to a nice savings. Almost paid for my next M-1.

Hey SSShooter,

Based on your comments here and over on the Shiloh Rifle forum I'm wondering why you're attempting to make this a personal issue.

As I pointed out there, although I have worked with and know several gays, I don't agree with businesses supporting the Gay Rights agenda any more than I agree with companies that support the anti-gun agenda.  I will limit my spending at these business.

By the way, If I were gay, which I'm not, I'd probably make a point to be real, real close friends with you, if you get my drift.   Wink

SSShooter,

I may have mis-spoke.  The guy on the Shiloh Rifle forum has a handle of "singleshotman".  If he and you are not one in the same than I apologize for my earlier comments.

Never been on the Shiloh forum, so not me. I say live and let live. As long as folks leave me (and others) alone, they're good.

Hey as a veteran, do you think I can get a 20% discount if I tell them I'm gay and show my DD214 too? I'll say almost anything for a 20% discount! Wink

Hey Marlinguy --- you are a very funny guy.  I saw a scene in a small Texas truck stop somewhat like you said.  A black guy comes in to the counter and asks for a pack of kools cigarettes, woman behind counter tells him only two kind of people smoke kools, q****s and n*****s and which was he.  I figured he was going to go through the roof, but he said he guessed he'd claim q****r, as they get less hassle.  Brought down the house.  Turned out these two had been needling one another for years. While we're on the topic of vets, any of you guys/gals (especially older ones) that aren't signed-up for the VA Hospital might want to give that some thought.  There're some advantages to signing up.

Sign up for a VA Hospital, they're giving those away now? Huh  You must mean sign for VA Disability Benefits based upon service-related injuries or disease; which you must provide doocumented evidence. Smiley
