I had a primer fail to detonate this weekend, CCI small rifle. What is a safe way to dispose of a case with a primer still in it?

Hello, Lynn F.  No need to discard case!  I have de-primed live primers for years..I have a homemade punch & die set.  I chuck up punch in drill press & use gentle pressure to push out.  a reloading die should do the same thing..just use gentle touch & as always..wear safety glasses!

Thanks. I didn't know if oil or something would de-activate the primer. In my experience water does not affect a muzzleloader percussion cap.
I just didn't want to lose a finger or toss a hot case. You're right about the glasses. I always wear them when casting or priming.

I take three or four wraps around the press with a old towel. Then push it out easy with a decapping die. Wear safety glasses and look away while pressing

Never had one go off. If one did it's not likely to go through the towel
